Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Drinking too much water?

Daycare has been telling that my daughter is drinking a LOT of water while there.  I'm guessing in comparison to the other children.  When I asked how much is a lot, I'm told it's between 30-35 oz a day.  She then drinks about 3-4 oz at home and another 12 oz in milk a day.  Is this too much??  Should I be concerned?

Re: Drinking too much water?

  • Is everything else normal?

We had this issue with my son right around 18 months.  He was guzzling water at daycare all day, guzzling water at home all night.  I also was a little a concerned because I know it can be a sign of Type 1 Diabetes.  We brought it up at my son's 18 month appointment and the doctor said that if everything else seems normal, it's probably just that s/he's thirsty and nothing to worry about.  (They did a glucose test to be sure and it came back normal)

And if it makes you feel better, he's going to be 2 in a couple of weeks and now drinks a low to normal amount of water.
