Parenting after a Loss

Rear Facing Question

DH and I are on different pages on this, mainly because DS is the only child at his daycare over the age of one still rearfacing, he will be 2 next month.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure he could stay rearfacing until at least 3 in our current carseats. DH would like to turn him next month, but I have persuaded him to wait for now.

My question is when did you or when are you planning to forward face your LO? No judgement...just curious.

Re: Rear Facing Question

  • We're still a ways off, but I was reading an article that convinced me that ~2 yrs is the right time.  The article talked about how little ones have big heads for their age and whiplash is a bigger concern for them than for adults.

  • As long as possible which, in the current market for car seats, is 40 lbs.. I've seen so much stuff lately that shows they're five times safer riding rear facing, and if they could ride rear facing forever, it would be better for them.

  • I plan on keeping DD RFing as long as she is not screaming bloody murder while in the car.  I will not discuss it before she turns 2.

  • D will be two at months end and hes still RF. No plans to switch anytime soon. The car seat for DHs car is FF only, but that will pretty much never be used.

  • DD1 just turned 2 and is still RF. we will ask her Pedi in a couple weeks at her appt what she suggests, but I know it has been proven that RFing is the safest--even for adults. I personally don't care what other parents do and turning to FF just bc everyone else is doing it is just ridiculous. The only reason I'm thinking about it is bc DH can't drive his car with 2 RFing seats.
