How much nap time?

I'm going batshit over here.... Raylan has taken a serious dive into sleep regression territory, I know it's not the "worst" it could be but he's started waking up 2-3 times a night again and he's doing it RIGHT before I'm going to have to have to start waking up earlier to go to work 3 days a week.  He also just decided to veto his 2nd nap and I have no idea what the fuck is going on.  I can tell he's getting his top two teeth, so I don't know if he's fine on one nap and his sleep sucks because of his teeth or if the teeth are making him fight the one nap.... I have no idea.  How much are your LO's napping?  I'm going crazy and I have no patience left for all the sleep crap, at a year old I didn't think we'd be having so many damn issues.  I know I'm going to be seriously frustrated come next week when I'm up 3 times at night and then the first one up in the morning too.

Re: How much nap time?

  • Ok- I wrote that in the midst of an epic nap battle which never has me in a good mood....but seriously I'm frustrated because I feel like I have no idea what he needs.  Yesterday we tried earlier bedtime to compensate for the one nap....but still a terrible night. So today I'm going to fight him hell or high water and get two naps and see if it helps.  It just took me 30 minutes to get him down early enough to get in another nap.... I hope that if I get him more sleep he'll feel better and stop fighting it??

I just don't know... and then at daycare he's only going to get one nap, so even if I do get 2 naps back it would only be 4 days a week....anyone in similar territory??

  • I was told that as soon as daycare moves Henry into the next room (for 12-24 month-old babies), they will be cutting his naps down to one longer nap in the middle of the day.  I  noticed that ever since they told me that and started trying to get him used to that idea, he's been naturally leaning toward just the one nap a day.  Unfortunately, he only sleeps for an hour and a half during that nap when he's at daycare, but at home, he can make that nap into a 2 and a half to 3 hours nap easy.  During the adjustment period, though, he's been awfully cranky in the evenings, and his sleep at night has been weird as hell.  He also has decided he loves waking up for the day at 5am on many weekdays.  Ugh.

I guess this is my thing... if it's just an adjustment period then ok, I could stick it out....but I'm not sure that's what it is- like what if he's just not ready and this could just go on and on.... ya know??

  • DS2 is up to nurse between 3:30am-6, ,but typically nurses and goes back down until 7-7:30am. First nap has been around an hour around 9:30ish, second nap is around an hour sometime between 2-3pm. So just 2 2-hr. naps here. He turns 1 in 2 weeks though and I imagine he'll drop a formal morning nap soon after. DS1 did and took just one nap from 1-4ish for the longest time. Most days he'll still get 2-he. naps even at 3 years old.

  • I thought *most* babies dont' transition to 1 nap until 15-18 months.

DS takes 2 naps a day.  9:30am for first nap, naps for 1hr15m - 1.5 hrs. around 2:30pm for second nap and naps for 1.5 hours.  I follow the clock and not sleep cues.  He wakes up around 6:45am, if he's not up by 7am, we wake him up.  I find that if we stick with this schedule every single day, he will get tired at the scheduled times and doesn't fight his naps.  I will also wake him up from his naps if it goes over for too long (say, more than 30 mins).  Bedtime is around 8:15pm, he STTN.

I've tried waking him in the AM and/or from naps so he can go down easier but it makes him super grumpy!

our schedule works for us.  I find that for DS, consistency is key.  It helps that I SAH, so I can cater to his schedule, and plan outings/errands around it.

ONce in a blue moon, we may end up all "sleeping in" on a weekend, say until 7:30am.  If that happens, I still try to put DS down for his first nap at the usual time.  He seems to be okay to fall asleep then, even though he wasn't up for as long as he normally would be.

This is interesting to me.  We are having issues with her napping at daycare right now.  They have only been able to get her down for one nap a day all week and its been for about 30 minutes.  She comes home around 345 and we have to put her down for a nap because she is exhausted!  Then that nap comes up too close to bedtime as well as cutting into our time with her in the evenings.  I wonder if a nap schedule like yours would help us out.

  • Napping 2-3 hours, spread between 2 naps. I do pretty much the same thing as @pb_bride. He goes down at 9/915 for nap #1 and 2/230 for nap #2, regardless of how long he sleeps for his naps.

  • X sleeps for about 2.5 hours over 2-3 naps depending upon the day. Honestly, it sounds like maybe a teething issue.
Yea- he finally let me peak in there and the top two are just barely poking out... so I really hope he can get his sleep back to normal by Monday...
