Croup and daycare?

I've been up with my daughter whose been coughing, I'm guessing croup?? Just did steam shower and elevated her crib, seems better now. I'm a new mom, would you take off work and get her to the ped or is this something that the ped doesn't do anything for? They are one, my son seems to have gone through it last couple if days and is ok. Twins always both get it!

Re: Croup and daycare?

  • I guess it depends on her symptoms - just a cough? fever?

If it is croup, sometimes they can give Decadron to help with the inflammation in their throat.

  • My LO had croup.  Did what you already did, and we got a humidifier for his room.  The humidifier definitely helped!  We didn't keep him out of DC.  Croup is worse at night so it didn't impact him during the day too much and Pedi said not to come in unless it got worse.
  • Honestly, I would stay home if you can and keep her with you.  My kids have never had croup (knock wood), but my sisters kids used to get it a lot when they were younger.  More than once, they wound up in the ER, and once it turned into a week-long hospital stay.  Her kids all have asthma, but it wasn't until they got croup that they realized how bad it was with a couple of them.  Croup can be serious for some kids.  I'd want to be overly cautious, especially if this is the first time.
  • My lo just had croup. Pedi gave him steroid. Fyi we all got it although different inadults. It sucked!!!!
