Pregnant after 35

severe heartburn & pepcid?

Just a quick question to anyone who is still awake and has dr info.. I think I was allowed to take Pepcid with my last pregnancies for severe heartburn when Tums or other options just wouldn't do the trick.

I can't find the info sheet from my new dr and my spicy dinner is killing me.. Anyone know if this is still a standard "OK" drug while pregnant? It's also too late for me to go to the store to find anything else and I despise Dr Google.

Thanks!

Re: severe heartburn & pepcid?

  • I've never taken an OTC other than the tums.  I don't have a sheet yet, first appt in a couple weeks.  Good luck.

PS a little baking soda in some water should help even though it tastes bad.

  • My doc has forbade any OTC meds (including antacids), so I've had to find food items that do the trick. So far, seltzer water and prune juice have been my heroes. Bon Chance!
  • My doctor just gave me a prescription today for Prilosec (Omeprazole is the generic) because I've been getting such bad heartburn that it makes me feel like I'm going to vomit.  She said it's a category C drug in pregnancy and since I've been okay the past several days I'm going to fill the Rx but not take it unless it starts getting bad again

  • Thanks, everyone for your help!
I found my info and Pepcid AC is ok per my doctor in case of severe heartburn.
Yes, RN,,, this was putting me into the brink of painful reflux. This level of misery didn't come on this soon with my last pregnancies, more like mid-3rd tri. Oh, well, I guess no more "Chili-cheese anything" for me :/

  • My doctor gave me a prescription for Prilosec yesterday.  It's category C so I won't take it unless I start getting really bad heartburn again, but it's comforting to know I have it.
