Stupid thrush question

For those that gave gotten rid if the thrush on their nipples, does it slowly up away (ie every time the nipples hurt less) or is it like an overnight thing? I "think" it's going away but I'm not sure it's not just wishful thinking cause it's been taking a whole!

Re: Stupid thrush question

  • Mine was gradual over about a week. Unfortunately, as of yesterday I think it is back and coming back it was not gradual. Overnight the shards of glass feeling was back. :-(

I'm going on 6 weeks of reoccurring thrush, it sucks big time.

  • I've also had it for weeks! Here'a what I've been doing:
    - vinegar mix on nipples after each feeding
    - washing bras and night gowns in HoT water as well as drying on Hot in the dryer or in the sun
    - hot showers and pointing spray right in the nipples
    - at least 10 mins of direct sunlight a day on nipples
    - leaving them uncovered whenever possible
    - lots of hand washing
    - taking lots of Acidophilus
    - eating plain unsweetened yogurt
    - avoiding refined sugar

Not sure what has helped the most. So slow but it seems to be going away!

  • You might want to try, a salt water bath on the nipple area, Google Grapefruit Seed Extract and thrush, it will give you instructions on how much and when(both your nipples and in baby's mouth), I would use a q-tip multiple times a day, before and after feeds. I also would put canesten -af on the nipple after the feeding. It did wonders, it would absorb and not need to be washed off before next feed. Steer clear of laninoh during the time. Try to keep dairy and sugary foods on the minimal. Good Luck, thrush sucks.

  • @AmyG - thanks. Thankfully baby didn't have it. He had a yeast diaper rash that we treated with a cream (and apply 1/day for now)
The doc gave me a pill but since I live in Mexico it's not the same names so I didn't mention it. The names you're mentioning, are they pills or a cream? He told me to do baking soda/water mix on the nipples but after 2 weeks of it still not working I looked for other options online.
