Postpartum bleeding

How long did you bleed after delivery?  I delivered via c section almost a month ago and am still bleeding.  Nothing really heavy...about the same as day 3 or 4 of my period.  My OB told me once my milk was gone I should stop bleeding shortly after.  I only breastfed the first day after they were born and then tried again a week later and gave up.  Just curious...I've heard it takes a little longer to stop with twins.  Plus, I did IVF so I know the meds made my lining nice and thick so maybe that could be why it's taking longer?
It's more annoying than anything lol.
TIA!

Re: Postpartum bleeding

  • I still had a very light flow up until about six weeks after they were born, at which point I got my period.  Fun, lol!  But after that it stopped and has been normal since.
  • Loading the player...
  • I bled for almost 6 weeks, and that was after having a D&C 3 weeks PP.  You're totally still within normal!

  • I bled a long time.. the end wasn't super heavy though. I think I bled around 3ish months (I EP in the beginning and have EBF since)Then I got my first PPP in January (had the girls 30 Sept). It sucked!

  • It seemed like forever, probably 8 ish weeks?  It dripped and drabbed along forever.  The worst of it was over around 4 or 5 weeks.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

  • I can't answer for the twin postpartum as Im only at 25 weeks, however I do have a singleton who is 3 1/2. After his delivery I bled for 10 weeks and it was quite heavy with lots of clotting the whole time. It is horribly annoying I was sssooo over it by the time it stopped. I never got an explanation why and my OB said she wasn't concerend so it can last a while. I am praying it will be shorter this time around because I really am not looking forward to that again.

  • About 10 weeks, but I also had retained placenta and needed a d&c. Just keep an eye out if it goes on too long. You should mention it to your obgyn.

  • Over six weeks; I thought it had stopped at about 3-4 weeks, and then I started getting random gushes of blood/fluid - and I mean serious, squirt-off-the-end-of-the-pad gushes.  I put up with that for a couple days before going and buying some truly giant incontinence pads, and then it never happened again, but the light bleeding still continued a few days after my six week PP appointment.
