How cold do you keep your house?

I know this will greatly depend/vary on where you live.
I live in SOfla, temps are right now high 80's low 90's.  I keep the air at 77 when Mini and I are home all day.  When DH is home he swears I'm trying to kill him and lowers it to 74.  I think that's too cold.

So, What's your temp outside and what do you keep your air at?

  • I was going to ask this a few weeks ago but forgot. A lot of people around here keep there houses high 60's. Brrrr!

We keep our between 77-79. I just shut the ac off because it's so chilly outside. It rained for the first time in over a month! If it cools down at night our house cools down too so we don't have to run the ac a ton.

  • It's 90 here, the air was on 74 when I left.
  • 73 usually. Highs here are mid-80s low-90s.

  • So far in our new house we keep it at 72 and it's been 80 - 100 but we have this energy efficient thing where we have to watch the humidity and when I woke up it's 79% humidity and its supposed to be around 65%. I'm about to throw something at it.

@dmartin726 Where in south FL? I'm on the west coast near ft myers.

I keep it at 75/76 during the day and 74 at night.

Awesome so are we!  I'm originally from the East Coast, but DH got transferred for work, so here we are!  We are just South of Fort Myers.

  • 74 because it's the highest my husband will agree to! I've tried turning it down when he leaves but then I forget to turn it back up in the afternoon.

  • Ours is set to 78 during the day and drops to 75 when DH comes home.  I am use to the heat because I'm in it all day, but his office is cold and so it does feel hot to him in the house.  It drops to 73 at night, but sometimes we override it to 70 because he sleeps better that way.

In the winter the heat is kept at 72 while we are home.

  • Not cold enough for me! My thermostat is telling me it's 80 in here right now, but it feels much cooler, probably because the humidity has finally dropped. The temperature of our house is a constant battle between DH and I. He likes it very warm... Like so warm I could walk around in my undies in January and not be the least bit cold. I like the house cold enough that I can wear a sweater and not overheat.

I need to be cold to sleep. I was hot the other night and I woke up screaming at the top of my lungs and sweating buckets. I'd been tossing and turning, and I had a VERY vivid nightmare. Happens every time I overheat at night, although the screaming was a first. DH believes me now that he's witnessed it.

As much as my hormonal breastfeeding self would prefer 70, we do 74-75 for the sake of everyone else in the house.

ETA: I missed the outside temp part! It was 98 here yesterday.

  • 77-78 in the summer but in the winter I only turn the heat on if it goes below 68 indoors.
  • We keep the house around 77-78.  It's only in the high 70s here, but the house tends to get really hot in the afternoon.  I can't stand overly air conditioned places.

We keep our house around 73-74 all year long, AC/heat. If it is a cooler day during the summer, then I will open the windows.

Sorry, forgot about outside temps. I'm in ND, so summer is anywhere from 80-95. Winter gets cold, and varies from lows in single digits to below zero with even colder wind chills.

  • 72 during the summer, in the midwest.  We have a 2 level house and it gets hot up in DD's bedroom if I don't keep it that low.  In the winter I try and keep it at 69.

  • 74-75 during the summer with highs around 100. DH would like it much cooler, but I don't want to be cold in my own house.

I keep it set to 75 all year and use central air in the summer and heat in the winter.

    Edited for clarity.
  • We have it scheduled to start cooling off to 70 for the night and during the day it gets upwards of 77 in the house.

  • It's in the high 80s and we set the a/c at 75. Warm enough to still be comfy in tank tops and stuff we'd wear outside. In winter we keep the heat in the low 60s so it's cool enough to be comfy in the sweaters we wear outside.

  • We have 2 a/c units, one upstairs and one downstairs. We keep the downstairs on 74 and upstairs on 73 or 72 in the summer. In winter we keep downstairs on 70 and upstairs on 68 or 69.

  • About 70 to 72 during the day. 68 or so at night. I guess most of you would freeze at our house! :)
  • High here was 101 today. We keep the downstairs at 75 during the day and 68 at night. Upstairs is 80 during the day and 75 at night.
  • It is still in the high 90s here. 75 if we are gone (and sometimes if we are home) and 73 at night.

  • I keep it at 71 during the day in the summer, but DH turns it down to 68 - 69 when he gets home.  I have to put socks and a sweater on so I don't freeze.
