How Is Your LO In The Car?

Hi All --

My little guy is 7 months old and still has moments of hysteria in the car. What begins as a slight whimper turns into full on hysterical screaming and crying within a few minutes. It seems to boil down to the fact that he doesn't want to be in the carseat. I can only guess this because before we leave home, he's fed and changed. He's not in pain because the moment I take him out of the car seat, he starts playing. I've given him toys to occupy him, we sing songs, and we play little games. But, none of this helps because he eventually goes into crying mode.

This doesn't happen every time we go somewhere, however, its often enough that I'm starting to shy away from taking him anywhere. Are any of you experiencing this? Any ideas for keeping him calm?

Thanks,
Kate

  • If its longer than a 30min drive crying will be involved

  • Mine is fine as long as we're not stopped for too long.  She doesn't like sitting in the car while it's not moving.  On longer car trips she usually does fine for about an hour and a half.  Anything past that and we move into hysterics.  I'm lucky to have silly little kids sitting next to her to entertain her and distract her.

I think sometimes they get hot when they are RF.  Does he seem too warm?

I'm sorry.  Crying in the car is the worst!

  • Neither of my kids have ever had any issues with the car. DS is happy as long as he has a toy. H also likes to look at himself In the mirror.
  • DS cries sometimes. If he's sleepy he might cry, or just pass out. Depends. Sometimes he just wants out. It sucks when they cry in the car though. It's hard to focus on driving, but I remind myself that it's more important to arrive safely than to have a pacified baby!
