Babies on the Brain

In the spirit of rainbows and kumbaya...

Or if MW prefers, rain and tornadoes :) Here is my introduction:

I'm Kellie and right now I am in nursing school. My husband and I have been together for 5 years and recently married. We don't have any children yet, and we plan on trying after I finish school and work for at least a year. I would like to get certain percentage of student loans paid off before we start. Right now, I would like to get my master's and become a Nurse-Midwife and Women's health NP. I like most of the info on the Natural Birth board, and I really enjoy all of the posts on this board. Occasionally I lurk on TTGP, and lol at  @kikimonster 's Wilam gifs. I'm fairly new to online forums, so sometimes I'm a little oblivious to things, but I've read the newbie info and lurked for awhile so I hope I don't irritate you too much!

  • Hello & welcome! I'm mostly a lurker as well, but I chime in when I feel I have something worthwhile to say. :)@kayoun36 I'll be starting my graduate program in nursing-neonatal np in June 2014 (pending my acceptance)!! I'm sure we'll be going through a lot of the same stuff! DH and I have been married a little over a year & no kids yet here either. For right now I get my baby fix on TB!

  • Thanks everyone! It's nice to see so many nurses on here!

@PB&J714 , Good Luck! My sister was  a NICU RN and loved working in the NICU :)

@bugandbibs , that sounds really interesting! If you don't mind me asking, do you work in a hospital setting?
  • @kayoun36 I work in a school dealing with medically fragile children. Children with ventilators, trachs, g/j-tubes, on pumps awaiting organ transplants, etc... Children who need nursing care in order to attend school. I love my job.

  • @bugandbibs That sounds like a dream job! I'm trying not to have my mind set on a certain direction with nursing before I even get to the hospital because I'm not sure what I will actually enjoy until I'm doing it. Right now I am fascinated by midwifery, but I've always been involved in the special needs community. After hearing this I'm gonna research your job (creepy ;)  ) now

Not creepy, I really enjoy my job. One of the perks for me is that it operates on a school schedule. I get off all the same days the kids do. I choose not to work during the summer, but it is an option. No weekends, nights, or overtime. I'm home in time to pick J up from the bus stop and attend her meets. The beauty of nursing is that you don't have to pick one thing and do it forever, you can switch specialties and duties.
