Tell me about your wedding ring(s)

I'm just curious as it's come up several times in conversation over the last few days.

Did either of you get an engagement ring?
Do you both wear wedding bands?
Right hand or left hand?
Now PIP!

Re: Tell me about your wedding ring(s)

  • My wife proposed to me with a diamond solitaire -- uber traditional.  I wear it on my left hand, stacked on my wedding band, which is set with VERY small diamonds.  Wife just has a wedding band -- thicker than mine, and made of titanium because she tends to ruin things. :)

In other words, we're pretty boring.  But I love my rings nonetheless.

Now let's see if I can PIP...

  • We have matching titanium bands that we have been wearing since we got engaged. Took them off the morning of the wedding and put them right back on an hour later.
  • The top one is mine...so I did have an engagement ring. We picked the set out together.

C's is stainless steel and has 6 small diamonds in it. She tried on all sorts of options and this is really what suits her best. She can be hard on jewelry so we wanted to make sure her ring would hold up so well. The only downfall is that it cannot be resized.

We both wear ours on our left hands.

    Me: 30  DW (aka C): 29

Together since 2/15/11 ~ Legally married in NY on 9/29/12

  • I proposed to my wife, and gave her a ring, and later that day we picked out a ring for me, so we both had engagement rings. Her's is the one on the left, and mine is the one on the right. Our wedding bands are very similar, but our rings are different. Please ignore the fact that mine needs to be cleaned! Haha

  • Ours are pretty simple.  We both have one band that we used as both our engagement and wedding band.  I always wanted a single band, but, honestly, I want more bling.  Hanging my head in consumerist shame...

Here's a pic that our wedding photographer took (mine is on the right).

  • My fiancé proposed to me and gave me this beautiful vintage ring. I wanted her to get an engagement ring but she only wants the one simple band, probably white gold, no diamonds. So we decided to wait until we get married to pick one out. When we get married I will also get a similar simple band made to sit with my engagement ring.

My wife proposed to me in a scavenger hunt that I was clueless about! We had been looking at rings, but the same day of the scavenger hunt, we were chatting via text while I was at work and she told me she wanted to wait to propose until she could afford an amazing ring for me. Little did I know that she had already purchased one of the most amazing rings that I had said in passing that I Loved.

She proposed to me and I proposed to her (corny) during an eclipse of the moon a month later. My ring is a 14k white gold, Neil Lane bridal ring and she purchased two bands, one for each side. Her ring is a diamond ring where the diamond sits flush (since she is a firefighter) and we made her a custom wedding band.

I LOVE my ring because I know that no one else has one like it. They don't sell it anymore, either. I also love what it means. :) Mine is on the right and hers is on the left.

  • I lucked out when it came to spending money on BW's wedding set. Her grandmother told her many years ago, that when she was ready to get married, she had a set for her. Her grandmother lives in Florida, so when I was ready to propose, I had to call her grandmother and ask for her permission for us to get married. Her grandma loves me so, of course, she said yes. Her grandma shipped her rings to BW's mom here in Columbus. Her set is beautiful. The engagement ring is a simple round solitaire (3/4 carat, I think) and set in platinum. And the band is a simple band with set diamonds. The set is worth much more than I could ever afford, hence why I lucked out! She proposed to me a few weeks after I proposed to her and my engagement ring is the second picture below (the ring broke so I don't wear it). I had a simple white gold band when we got married, but BW bought me a band set with sapphires (my fav stone), but I've gained some weight and can't wear it :-( so at the moment I do not wear any rings. We both wear them, in traditional style, on our left ring fingers.
  • @trisholiosboi, I have the same ring but with December's birthstone...stunning!! Her ring is gorgeous!

Ours are from jewelry designer Jaime Joseph. She's from the PNW, and we got them in a little boutique perfume/jewelry shop in our neighborhood. Jill bought me this ring years ago as a 'commitment' ring after I'd gotten her a little diamond band for her birthday. When we decided to get married there wasn't much fanfare - it became legal in Nov. last year, and went into effect right around the day of my IVF transfer. I got pregnant, and sometime in January we decided to get married around 20 weeks. We definitely wanted to be married before the baby came - and sadly we lost him but the wedding was such a great thing to have to look forward to!

This year, for her birthday in April, I got her the same ring but with a white gold band around it - so they are the same but still individualized a little. I couldn't tell if she'd love it or not but she LOVED it. And she told me "it was important to have matching rings to me" :). So, they are more artsy than blingy, but we love the crap outta them. We both wear them on our left hands.

Oh, and another truth: J is hard on things and loses things ALL the time. We also didn't want a price range that was TOO obnoxious in case she lost it. Which she basically expects to at some point in our lives, no disrespect to me, just her way and she 'owns' it. :) But I hope she manages to NOT lose it one day! FX.

We went looking for rings together and ended up having them made. I designed S's ring to match the design of the one I ended up with. Of course I wasn't expecting to be proposed to and get married In a three day span, I just ordered her ring and wanted it ready when the time came. I have an "engagement" and wedding ring that sits perfectly underneath. Definitely my most prized possession and I can't wait until I can wear them again. We wear them on or left hands as well. Hers is all one piece even though it looks like three bands.

  • My beautiful wife proposed to me a few weeks before she left for half a year on work.  The ring is a beautiful vintage art deco platinum setting; then she selected an antique hand-cut diamond for it.

    I love it!

While she was gone on that trip I carved a wax blank of a modern ring that echoed the art deco style of hers.  I also selected an old hand-cut diamond.  I had the ring cast by a local artist/jeweler and set the stone.  On the inside of the ring, but outside of the band (what you see when you open your hand), are two very, very small diamonds connected by a wiggly line; this line is an exact tracing of the 3 hour road from her house to mine which we drove for over a year.  Yup, we are always connected no matter how far apart we are.

I only have a pic of the one she gave to me.

So much fun to make and give and have and hold.

  • We both got engagement rings. I proposed to her, and we picked mine out later on (I'm picky and wanted something very unique). I custom made hers from Tacori. Mine is a Ritani. We have matching wedding bands :) We wear both on our right hands!
