Trying to find ways to wear out baby

My LO does not like to nap, and I've been trying to rule out different reasons. Sometimes it seems like she may not be getting tired enough from her daily activites. She just started rolling a lot so she can move around some by herself but we have to move her for the most part. We do sit ups with her a lot (helping her pull herself into a sitting position). We carry her around while we are doing things so she can watch us, and make faces and sing to her. She plays in her gym too. What else can we really do to wear her out at this age?

Re: Trying to find ways to wear out baby

  • My LO loves to go to the store...any store. Her favorite is Home Depot- sooooo much to look at! I carry her in my arms and let her look around. Up and down a few isles and she's ready for a nap by the time she's buckled into the car seat

  • Does she have good upper body support? If so, an exersaucer wears my little guy out. And like PP said, an outing helps too, but sometimes he gets overstimulated and it can be counterproductive. I remember when he wasn't sitting yet, I used to just put him on the floor in his nursery and let him do his thing - roll, explore. After awhile, he got tired.

  • Take LO outside for a walk around the neighborhood or yard.   Our Lo loves to go outside, in fact when we open the door to go out he lets out a big "AAAHHHHHH"  He loves looking up at the sky and the trees.   Just about every evening we will get in the mule and go for a ride around our 60 acre farm.   Normally he falls asleep with in minutes of the ride.

  • When I go for long walks or drives on the highway, LO will often fall asleep easily.

I find that when it's getting close to nap time, doing physical activities like practicing whatever the next skill is, tires her out. For example, when she wasn't great at holding her head up yet during tummy time or not yet rolling over, doing tummy time would tire her out. Now I will sit with her on the floor and help her practice sitting up. When she has to work hard physically, it wears her out.

  • Thank you everyone! These are great suggestions. I am glad to know that this is normal!!!

  • Walking, tummy time, and the jolly jumper all tire her out. :)
