Part #2 of my review of newfangled pregnancy tests

The suspense has been killing you of course (NOT)!

Anyway, after waiting 6 days instead of the promised 7 (I figured based on when I think I O'ed I should definitely be 5+ weeks by now), and sure enough, the result said that I am 3+ weeks pregnant, and not 2-3 weeks as it said last week, which I take to mean that my hcg is progressing as it should be (for now).  Huge sigh of relief for me this morning, especially since I've been nervous what with the antibiotics I've been on this past week.

So here's my final review:

Pros:  This is a cheap, non-invasive way to find out if your hcg is rising as you would expect it to week by week for the first 3 weeks after ovulation.  Nice to avoid the doctor's office and those days waiting for the phone call to find out what your beta's are.  Also because things do seem to be progressing appropriately for now, it brought a couple days of feeling positive about this pregnancy, which I sorely needed. 

Cons:  While it is cheaper than my co-pays, it was still $20 for the two tests.  Also it was hugely nervewracking the day before the first test and the day before the second test, probably just as nervous as I'd be going to the doctor's office for blood draws.  Also, it is not as technical or detailed as the blood draws.  Finally, since the test doesn't show you that you are anymore than 3+ weeks, I can't do any more testing to confirm things are progressing appropriately, so the usefulness is limited.

All in all, if you are anxious, Type A, and want to know what is going on while waiting for you first ultrasound, I recommend these tests with the caveat that they are somewhat limited and I now have no way of knowing what's going on from this point forward.  I would probably not recommend them for the more low key pregnant people who want to try to remain as relaxed as possible in a whatever happens happens sort of way. 

Also my disclaimer is the tests actually say you are not supposed to use them as I used them, so how accurate they are for the purpose that I used them is really unknown.

    Oh thank goodness you finally put me out of my misery! :)  Now if only I could get knocked up so I can obsess over new fangled pregnancy tests.  I must say, they sound pretty neat.

    LOL Lindsey!  Don't worry, soon you too can fork over money for fancy pregnancy tests when you know you are already knocked up!  ;)

    Great review, and great to hear things are going well so far!! Hugs to you on the anxiety.. hopefully that subsides some as you progress.. best of luck to you!!

    BFP #1: 11/25/2007, EDD 7/28/2008 - Missed m/c (blighted ovum) 12/6/2007 6w3d, D&C 1/3/2008.
    BFP #2: 4/2008 - Natural m/c at 6w.
    Met with RE in 5/2008 full cycle analysis and SA normal. Not considered high risk for blood clots but prescribed 1 baby aspirin a day precautionary during TTC and Progesterone suppositories during 1st trimester of pregnancy.
    BFP #3: 10/17/2008. EDD 6/23/2009,  Third time's the charm! Healthy baby boy born 6/27/2009 via emergency c-section.
    BFP #4: 6/14/2011. Healthy baby boy born 2/16/2012 via elective c-section.
    BFP #5: 1/15/2014. EDD 9/22/2014.     2/17/14:.We have a BABY!!! Heart rate 167 and measuring on time. 3/10/14 u/s #2 baby measuring perfectly at 12 weeks at heart rate of 166. NT u/s was normal. Maternit21 blood draw on 3/5/14. Results back on 3/19 - Normal.  It's a BOY!!!  4/10/14 at 16 weeks, 3 days discovered baby's heart stopped at 15 weeks, 6 days. D&C 4/11/14.  Pathology results were all normal.  New information on 8/11/14 - blood test revealed 1/3 of babys blood was in mine caused, most likely, by a tear in the placenta from extreme coughing.  Doctor believes this to be the cause of death.  Repeat D&C and Hysteroscopy scheduled for 8/19/14.  My Chart
