Re: "Locking" Door?

  • We put a gate in her doorway at night. We have one that has a door.

  • DH and I have been talking about this very issue. DS isn't in a big boy bed yet and hasn't climbed out of his crib yet, but we fear it is imminent.  Right now, we have a gate in our upstairs hallway that will keep him from getting to the stairs (terrible staircase for gating so the hallway gate was our only option), but he has to pass three other doors (bathroom and two bedrooms) before he even gets to the gate so we're worried about him going into those rooms, and for heating/cooling purposes, we can't really close off every room upstairs.  So, to make a long story short - we're probably going to gate his bedroom door.  But, I'd be curious to hear, too, what people think about locking the door because we've considered that option, but I'm not super keen on it.  I feel like that could feel scary to DS.

  • Our plan is to put a gate in his doorway. I don't feel comfortable locking because I don't want to fumble with a lock if there is a fire or other emergency.

  • i put a removal gate in her door for the first few weeks- i've gotten lazy and haven't put it up every night lately. She got the message that she stays in her room. Is she needs something she cries from the threshold
  • When DS was in his wandering stage, we put the doorknob cover on.

  • We used a gate in DS' doorway when he was younger and we plan to do that for DD.
