Anterior placenta -- when did you feel baby moving?

So, I am a FTM with an anterior placenta and I was just wondering how many of you guys out there are in the same boat and when did you first feel the baby moving? I know from ultrasounds that baby is healthy and moving around like crazy, which is great, but I just can't wait to feel him move!

Re: Anterior placenta -- when did you feel baby moving?

  • I think I first felt definite movement at about 17w. I feel it all the time on the inside now but DH has only felt "kicks" on the outside once so far. I can see my tummy move if he is being squirmy!

  • I just found out at yesterday's appt that I have one. I felt a definite kick (2 actually) a week ago so 20 wks and have been feeling movement here or there since yesterday that I am sure is the baby and not something else like gas.

I had to ask my ob if I had anterior placenta (after reading about it so much here) because she asked if I was feeling much movement and I told her not really and found out I do have one. I kind of wish she had told me before but she said they don't tell women as to not worry them unless they aren't feeling much movement.

I hope you feel movement soon!

  • Around 18 weeks. Later than with DD by about 3 weeks.

  • I just felt my first (what I think is) kick last night at a little over 20w. My doctor told me it could be as long as 24w with an anterior placenta though.

  • There are days when I can really feel him and days when I feel nothing at all. This has been since about 20 weeks.

I'm having fraternal twins- one with anterior placenta, one with posterior so I have a direct comparison. I felt my first movement from twin A (posterior placenta) around 17w, but twin B (anterior) not till 20w. Even now, twin A's movements are very strong and regular, but I only feel B faintly and as little as once a day. Considering I have both positions of placenta at once- I can tell you there is a BIG difference in how much you feel and when
    That's pretty cool!

  • I had an anterior placenta with DS, and I've got another one with this pregnancy, too.

With DS, I felt him move for the first time at 24 weeks. I was a swift, sharp kick, and there was no denying that it was him.

With DD, I felt her move about a week ago. I've had some little pops or bubbles here and there that could be attributed to the baby as early as 11 weeks, but I consider those more likely to be gas bubbles or something than her. I felt her first big intentional kick a couple nights ago.

That's crazy and make me want to experience what you're feeling! I didn't start really feeling nudges until just after 20 & a half weeks but I had experience very light rolling feelings before that.  Now at 22 weeks DH just felt the nudges on the outside when he laid his head in my lap, he said he could hear me gurgling and then felt it and sat up and said, "Woah was that from the gurgling?" Lol. too funny!

  • I have been feeling movement since approximately 16 weeks. It was very faint and dull for the first 2 weeks and then at 18 weeks, I started feeling it quite a bit. My husband felt the first outside movement at exactly 20 weeks. Come to find out 2 days later that I have an anterior placenta. I had no idea, ha.
  • I had an anterior placenta with DD and I didn't feel her until 20w.  With this one, no anterior placenta and started feeling LO at 15w and she's way more active.  Not sure if all of this is completely anterior placenta related or STM related, but either way, it definitely took longer with the anterior placenta.

  • I have an anterior placenta and am 22 weeks and just started feeling little "thumps" very low in my abdomen this week. The last 3 days I've felt it everyday though
  • I started feeling him around 18 weeks, 5 days... Probably because he is in the breached position and likes to kick my bladder :-)
  • I only just started feeling what I was sure was LO at the start of week 23, and that's only really when I'm laying down. Tomorrow I'll be at 24w and it's still not regular, but I'm taking comfort in the fact that it's happened!
