Adoption

Would you update?

Good Morning Ladies,

We went into profile in March and since then my husband has lost 60lbs. He really wants to update our profile book and our online profile. I'm just nervous we'll spend time updating it and then they'll continue showing the wrong book. Is that dumb? Of course there is also the cost associated. I have a feeling when I ask our SW she'll say we've only been waiting 6 months and its not worth updating yet.

Thoughts?

Re: Would you update?

  • If the hubs has initiated and requested the change, I would make it happen. 60lbs is a great deal of weight and that's a huge accomplishment! If you are worried about them showing the old profile, request that when you turn in the new ones that they give you the old ones back!

  • I think that if the BM was concerned about overall health, it could make a difference. I second that maybe you could ask for the old ones back if you are concerned about them showing the wrong one. Also, congrats to your H for losing the weight! That's a great accomplishment.

    Started TTC July 2012. Missed m/c & d&c 9/12 11w. Natural m/c 1/13 6w. Chemical pgs 3/13 & 8/13 around 4w. Currently TTA while saving for adoption.

  • Congrats to him!

If he's asking for it, I'd request it.

  • Thats a huge accomplishment for him.  I would say yes to update.  The perspective birth parents might look differently at heavier adoptive parents, as sad as it is to say.  It honestly shouldn't be much to update your profile either, I would say do it.
  • I would agree with everyone else. That's a big accomplishment! Congrats to him! Plus, it's your profile, you should be able to update it whenever you want. Doesn't matter what your SW says. https://joshandkrisloveadoption.blogspot.com/
  • As an expectant birth mom, I would encourage updating. I am very health-conscious so it was important to me to find a family who cares. This didn't mean being "thin," but seeing that much weight loss would show that you guys make health important in your life.

  • Congrats to DH, that is a HUGE accomplishment and YES update.  Especially since he is the one who wants to do it.

  • Thanks ladies. I am going to begin updating our book etc. tomorrow. We'll have to take a few updated pictures though so it'll take a little bit. I am super proud of hubby for making this huge lifestyle change. He went from an xl to a large/medium and from a size 46 pant to a 38. (He prob. wouldn't like me sharing so much info but I'm proud).

My SW will have to stuff it if she doesn't like it.

  • We were in a similar situation - DH lost 75 lbs and I lost 30 between the time we made our profile book and the time that we became matched.  I was actually working on a re-make of our book but (thankfully) never ordered it before we were matched.  It was difficult to remake, only because we don't take a lot of photos of ourselves to begin with, so we didn't have many from "after" weight loss.  We had a photo session with each of our families, so I was looking forward to including some clear professional pics.  Other than that most of the photos would have been the same, and they were from a 5 year time frame.  I know "they" say to use current photos, but again we didn't have many.  Long story short, the EM we're matched with either didn't notice or didn't mention the weight loss...  I would say that you should do whatever you feel you need to do.  Good luck!

    we are until forever...

  • What a wonderful thing to have to update!  Congratulations to your husband (and kva11isho's, too)!
  • We're going to update it- we just need a bit more time to take some updated photos. It is a huge accomplishment- he's officially thinner then when we met 12 1/2 years ago!!
