running late in pregnancy/groin pain (TMI)

I am 35 weeks and change and am still trying to run occasionally (2 times a week, 2.5-3 miles), but after I do my crotch hurts SO BAD. It feels like I sat on a hard bike seat for 300 miles and then got kicked in the groin. I wear a support belt when I run. Any other suggestions to avoid (aside from stopping running) or relieve this pain?

  • Yikes!! Sorry you're experiencing this. For me, some days are better than other depending on where LO is putting pressure. Weeks 37-38 were difficult, but I made it 2+ miles today (39 weeks) with no problems. Not really a solution, but that's how it has been for me.

  • Have you tried running on a treadmill if you haven't already? Seemed to be more comfortable to me and I made the switch at 36 weeks...was able to run until 39 +6 weeks. Are you stretching your glut and hip muscles? That may also help. Have you tried slowing your pace further and taking shorter stride length.
  • I would imagine the feeling like you were sitting on a bike seat could also be related to baby's position...don't know if you know or how low baby is but that would give me a bad running day when baby was not sitting well for me.
  • Thanks for the advice/support. I will try a treadmill, I haven't yet and that's an interesting idea...maybe it will help! I think the baby's position must have to do with it, too, because I had a better day (though still some pain) since writing this and I think the baby was in a slightly different position. I scaled back distance one day and that helped, too, but I'll see if I can go longer on a treadmill...
  • I'm only 17 weeks, but I have this crotch pain while running, too.  Its not as intense as what you're describing, but its there.  So far, I'm just running through it.  It happens at the beginning of a run and then everything loosens up and it goes away.

I don't have any suggestions, except switching to walking or stretching after a run.
