We haven't started with DD yet...with DS I made his food but I went off a chart on the WWW.wholesomebabyfood.com. I usually went by that but DS loved food and he started eating my food pretty quick
We did cereal first, and are almost through all of the stage ones. Only peas remain, and he'll eat those tonight. He is now taking a full carton of stage 2 twice per day. He is 6 months tomorrow. I am also going to get some Puffs this weekend for him to try.

Just curious, how long did it take your LO to "get it" and not gag much?
We started LO like 3 weeks ago, not every day yet though. Did oatmeal cereal a few days and he got a rash, so switched to avocado. Have given him avocado like 6 times now. 4 times he has gagged a lot but ate it, twice he gagged and then vomited it all back up, including last night. Tried bananas two times, he really did not seem to like it at all and vomited that one of the times too.
He's not ready then. Give him a week or two of rest, and then try again. They shouldn't gag or vomit.

We started DD on oatmeal first, just after she turned 4 months. The first day she was like WTH are you putting in my mouth?! but now she loves it. Avocado, not so much, lol. We did the 4 day rule with that, and now today is day 4 for bananas, which she likes too. Tomorrow we start sweet potatoes.
I am trying to follow the Wholesome Baby Food Guide too - I have the book and the website that a PP mentioned is good too. So, we'll just continue following that as for what foods to introduce when. As she gets older, we'll thicken the texture too and maybe around 8 months start trying small bits of food to see how she does.
I started both of my DDs on solids on their 4th month birthdays. Both girls received only rice cereal for the first month. My pedi suggested to stick with one solid only for a month straight to get their tummies used to digesting the for on the rice cereal, I switched to oat cereal for a week, then to orange veggies for a week, then green veggies for a week, then onto the fruits for a week at a time, starting with apples, then bananas, then peaches, then darker fruits from there. You should go orange foods, then green foods, then yellow foods (starting with veggies, then to fruits so your LO doesn't get used to the sweet foods first and then not want to eat the not so sweet veggies).
Once she's gone through the rounds of foods, you can rotate as you please every 2-3 days. Just my way of doing it based on my pedi's suggestions and other background info I've read up on as well as my experience with my oldest.
I tried avocados today with my DS and he hated it! I did just avocado at first then I mixed it with cereal (he's been eating cereal for a week now) and he hated it both ways. He gagged so I stopped and went back to the cereal. He pushed the cereal out at first but then realized it was just cereal. I'm going to try green beans or peas in a couple days and try avocado again later. Don't give up on avocados just yet your LO may just not be ready yet too!
My LO is turning 6 months next week and has been giving me mixed signals. She was almost 5 months when we first tried sweet potato, and she wasn't having it, so we waited. Then we tried avocado, which she seemed on the fence about. Tried sweet potato again and she loved it, opened her mouth really wide. Did the same for carrots as well as the apple & sweet potato flavored cereal from Earth's Best. But other things I've had her try would lead me to believe either she doesn't like them or isn't really ready. We've tried peas (jar), pears (jar), banana (jar and real) and apple (jar), and she didn't seem to like any of them. I'm giving her a little break now.
She also has to be in the right mood. If she's tired or cranky, I don't even bother. It just makes her more cranky.

I started with the cereal for the first week but she wasn't a fan! Tried pumpkin the next week( was so-so), sweet potato the week after and this week on carrots. Going to try apple or pear next week!
Started on rice cereal for about three weeks, then introduced oatmeal. After that we did the 3 day straight check on apples, carrots, pears, and now sweet potatoes. She loves carrots and pears. The other two she decided she liked about halfway through the jar. She is definitely ready...very demanding if you stop feeding and don't complete. She also tries to grab adult food and watched intently as we eat (she actually became interested in food around 3.5 weeks). No issues with allergies or unusual poos.
At 6 month I might introduce more "solid" food (like banana) but she hasn't got her teeth in yet so I wouldn't do anything that she couldn't mush with her gums. I also have the netted feeder I gave to my mom so she can put in pears/apples.
