Am I NUTS?! Scared of embryo mix up....

I am going completely out of my mind right now. We had egg retrieval 8/19 and transferred 2 blasts on 8/24. Between then, our embryologist called looking for a different girl with the same last name as me. Our first names even sounded similar. I told her she had the wrong girl. The embryologist stumbled on her words and said she was sorry, but she dialed the wrong person with the same last name. Um....

So I called the IVF coordinator, who said that was absolutely unacceptable. I explained that since the embryologist has already mixed me up with another girl (or another girl's phone number), I was scared she would mix up the sperm samples or the embryos on the 5 day transfer. The IVF coordinator explained their security procedures, the embryologist called to apologize and further explained how and why a mix up of embryos would never happen even with people with the same last name. I felt better.

I am now pregnant (yay!) and of course, we are so excited. But there is this nagging little thought in my head telling me I need to get a dna test on this embryo to make sure its mine! Am I nuts?! My husband thinks I'm overreacting but that he would pay for a dna test if that would put my mind at ease for the next 8 months. Has anyone else thought this or done this? Am I insane???

Aye no experience here. Hope it was just a mix up in the phone call because no one wants a life time movie situation! Eek. But congrats on the pregnancy!

No experience, but I was also pretty freaked about a mix up (without the name issue- yikes!). But, one of my boys came out looking exactly like me and the other looks just like DH. I think it's a really normal fear

At our office they checked both names and patient numbers. So I never really had any doubts. You felt better after they spoke with you and explained their procedures, why do you still have doubts? Can you call them back and ask them to review their notes from all your procedures (i.e. number and quality of embryos retrieved and transferred, ID numbers, etc.) just to confirm?

Honestly though, it probably was just an administrative error in terms of names and phone numbers having nothing to do with the embryos themselves. Congrats on the pregnancy!

When we were doing our last retrieval, this topic came up on the IF board. Most people had this thought in the back if their mind and a few were really concerned. I would not be too worried over it, however the name mix up for the phone call would have rattled me a bit. Maybe you and your husband could sit face to face with the embryologist and discuss things further? If that doesn't calm all your doubts, a DNA test is easy to do and might be worth it for the peace of mind.

UGh. I am sorry you are dealing with this. It would rattle me for sure. However I agree with @pantsarella. Chances are it was just an administrative error. She probably pulled your name from a seperate computer system and accidentally grabbed someone else's info.

I actually never had the fear of my stuff getting mixed up. However I have the fear they will lose my frosties. So I guess we all have some IF Quirks that we deal with.
