RHogam shot

Has anyone else had the rhogam shot early? I had mine tonight, I have been spotting for three weeks and my doctor suggested this shot since I am A-. I am 8 weeks today and just nervous. I really want everything to go well.

Re: RHogam shot

  • I had a shot two weeks ago and I'm 9 weeks now. I was spotting for. Few days and my dr wanted to be sure all was well. Getting the shot is a good thing! It will prevent antibodies from being made and or being harmful to baby! There are a few more rh neg mommies on here and there was another post this week about it if you want to search

Unless your bleeding or spotting you don't get the shot until your something like 20-23 weeks I think. Not 100% which week but its in the 20s. You will also be given a shot right after you deliver
  • Thank you all! I am hopeful this spotting business will stop! It is super nerve wracking!
  • My doctor said I'd get the shots a little later in the pregnancy.  Good to hear these stories before hand!

My dr plans to give me this shot at 28 weeks since I have no spotting so far and I am 9W4D. Does any one understand the reasons the shot is given. I am A- and DH is A+?

Yes, It is because the baby may have your husbands blood type and if he/she starts bleeding (due to trama, etc) your body could see it as an infection of some sort and start attacking/rejecting the babe.  The shot is able to stop your body from reacting to the blood.  I read you don't need the shot at all unless you get into a car accident or are bleeding, but better safe than sorry?
