Diaper Raffle

Hello ladies,

The moms and sisters are hosting my shower but my DH is making the invitations because he does that kind is stuff. Well yesterday when she was showing me the list of guests, she asked if he could put that there will be a diaper raffle on the invites! Ugh! I didn't want to be rude and tell her no way because I think it's super gift-grabby.

Can I tell her that I don't like that or do I just have to suck it up because she's hosting it. I'm so grateful that they're doing this but I just think a raffle is too much. Thanks!

Since she asked you, you should offer your opinion. Tell her that you would find it very awkward to ask your generous friends and family, who are already honoring you with their gifts and presence, to buy an additional gift, and that you don't want to put people out.

You can also tell her that you've heard that buying too many diapers ahead of time can be a problem because you never know if a certain brand will cause leaks or rashes, and you'd prefer to just have whatever gifts your guests would like to bring.

(Note that the diaper concern above is a real issue-Huggies leaked like crazy with DD, and the regular pampers gave her a terrible diaper rash. We ended up donating a ton of diapers we received as a gift from my MIL.)

Yep, if she asked, you can definitely give your opinion. I would just avoid using words like "tacky" and "gift-graby," because it will sound like you are insulting her. Make it seem like it's just a weird personal issue of your own: "I know this will sound crazy, but I have this weird thing about diaper raffles. I know people love them but I always feel bad about everyone buying me that extra gift. Do you mind if we just skip that part?" Gets the point across without making her look like the bad guy.

Just be honest with her that you aren't a fan of them. Also, using the reasoning that "you don't know what brand will work best" is not that smart because you can exchange diapers at any Walmart.
