Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Thanksgiving

Thinking ahead.
My family gets together at 4pm, eats at 6, leaves at 8. This is all right when DS starts going to bed (6-8). Once we go past that, it's fussy town city. What should we do? I'm going to suggest having dinner earlier this yr, but if not... Do we quickly eat & race home? Or deal with an overtired baby? He will be 5.5 months by that time (Canadian thankgiving). WWYD?

Re: Thanksgiving

  • What time does he ACTUALLY go to bed and what do you do beforehand?  I'd skip anything you don't absolutely have to do like a bath and books, bring his pjs to dinner and put him in those so that he can fall asleep on the way home (or there if you're late) and then just put him in his crib.

  • We don't do bath, story etc. I put him in the woombie, nurse and then bed. The time varies every night.
  • I would bring his jammies, plan on nursing him there and just let him sleep while you're there/in the car on the way home.  I have had DD out several times at bedtime, and we always just do a makeshift of the bedtime routine and put her to sleep where we're at.  A lot of times I end up holding her while she sleeps wherever we're at, but I don't mind.

  • Maybe do anything you can to make sure your LO has a good late afternoon nap so he is well rested. Agreed about changing him into pjs and having him sleep in the car on the way home. Then if he wakes once home keep him in a dark room and try to get him to sleep again so he doesn't get cranky.

  • Thanks. I think I'll just play it by ear. He doesn't wear PJs tho since he is still swaddled (naked).... Hopefully by that time he won't need it.
