I'm just curious to get a poll of sorts here... do you give medicine for fevers? When Raylan was sick his fever was up around 103 without the meds and he was miserable (not surprisingly.) I did what my pedi said both times he was sick and kept him on pretty regular motrin... I let it wear off at least once a day to see where his temp was at, but otherwise I was trying to keep him comfortable so he could sleep. I thought this was mostly common...but then I found out two of my friends had had their kids get seizures because their temps were so high because they were trying not to medicate? I'm not trying to start a war here... I'm just curious. I know I got tylenol as a kid if I had a fever and it's been around forever... plus I chose a pedi I can trust b/c I'm not a doctor... so I do what they suggest as long as it's something I'm comfortable with... is this common? To avoid meds at all cost even a high fever??

I'm with you on this one. I like to know where the illness is headed. Plus I just don't like to give Motrin unless it's really bad. I feel like there's way less info out there on the effects of long term use than there is with Tylenol.
Don't get me wrong, I would never not give meds if he seems really uncomfortable...but if it's not bothering him I'll hold off for a while. With my older son, he asks for meds when he stubs his toe. So I really have a hard time deciding when it's really "bad enough" for meds with him.
This is similar to how we handle fevers as well. I also agree that 24-hour nurse lines are one of the greatest services ever!
