Deposit just to view DE profiles?

We are looking at switching clinics. The new clinic requires a1000$ deposit just to submit your form. They don't actually let you choose, they match you. Which is the first big issue with me.i want to choose. Secondly, why would I pay if there are not any donors that would meet my must have criteria? Anyone have experience with this or how t handle it?

Yikes - for ours, we had to do our initial deposit of $3,000 to see the donor pool, but it was 100% refundable if we did not move forward. Still, a chunk of change to tie up! And, imagine my horror to learn *ALL* the donors in their pool were already cycling or were in between and not available! I was *so mad*! However, it did all work out fine.

I guess part of me says "fine" - just send them over and I'd say "no" if I don't like that one. Essentially, you are "choosing" but they are protecting you from the disappointment of not being able to have a donor who you want but that is unavailable for whatever reason. My guess is this is just their way of only giving you viable options (unlike my experience where our first, oh, zillion choices were actually not even an option!). This was one part of my process they could've handled better imho, and looking at yours, they are keeping you from feeling that frustration.

This whole choosing a donor thing is rough. Hang in there, it's so hard to have no (or next-to-no) control. I'd ask some questions if you have them, but the $1000 just means you're serious; and the "matching" I bet means "this is what is available that meets your criteria" (i.e., race, etc.). Keep us posted!

We had to put a deposit of $2200 down to be put on the waiting list. We also do not choose our donors. The clinic search for the appropriate donor from the profile we gave them and try to match us.

We are 3rd on the list..it took us 11 months to get here and we still have many months to go. We are doing a "shared" cycle with another couple. MH also worried that if we put rest of deposit down when it's our turn what if we don't like any of the profiles? Hopefully we find one. At this point I just want to cycle and have a baby. I don't care if the donor has blue hair..lol

Like 2Mamaz said..we are choosing even though it doesn't seem like it. My clinic is going through a dry spell on finding donors that can do a share cycle. Good luck to you and this is such a long process.

We don't see profiles until we pay remaining balance.

I guess I have been lucky since neither RE I have worked with required any upfront money AND I got to chose. I do see why they would do that, to insure you are serious about moving forward etc...

I say do what you are comfortable with, and if you are not comfortable with this, then I would look into other clinics. Good Luck!

I would not do that at all. We got to view profiles right away, we didn't have to pay and we did actually get to pick between several hundred ladies. There are some really unethical clinics and agencies out there- pick a good one!

Thanks ladies, this gives me some perspective on what to expect. I have a meeting with the dr. Tomorrow and feel I know better what to ask. Thanks again.
