December 2010 Moms

Do you remember how I've always worried about G's size?

I know most of you stopped worrying about this long ago. And, for the most part, I have too. Out of sheer curiosity, though, I weighed and measured G and then looked it up online. According to the chart I found he is 55th% for weight and 75% (!!!!!!) for height. I have no idea how accurate the chart is, but I still feel AMAZED! This is my boy who was 1% for weight and under 10th% for height and more or less diagnosed as FTT. When I think about intense anxiety and worry I went through...argh!

  • Wow!  Way to go G!  I do remember that.  He even went to feeding therapy right?

I used to worry that C wouldn't talk practically at all.  It turned out he had moderate hearing loss due to the chronic ear infections.  After tubes though, he now doesn't stop!

Funny us as newbie moms, huh!?  :-)

  • Yep! He did go to feeding therapy. I stressed myself sick over him for at least 1 1/2 years.

  • That is awesome! Go G!

We are still stressing over here. DS is like 75% for height, but something redic like 5% for weight. Our pedi never said it to us directly, but I was looking at his medical records online the other night & there's actually a note for FTT! I just keep telling myself he can't be like this forever.

  • such great news! so happy for you!

also, we are right there with duncan still under 10% for weight and under 5% for height!  theyve done blood tests to see if there is an issue with his height and everything.  we got FTT as well :(   its depressing.
    BUT...he eats like a HORSE!

my husband keeps reminding me that short, skinny people can be smart, funny, and successful too!
  • Aw Bosha and Jni, I hope I didn't make you feel bad. I really don't know if the chart I looked at was accurate because G is still super skinny. And, I know G just hit a growth spurt because he's about 1 1/2 inches taller than he was three months ago. Who knows where our kiddos will end up. It just felt like a relief after all the worry and being sent to a developmental pediatrician because he wasn't growing at all and feeding therapy. Oy. I think the older they get the less and less we need to worry about such things. It's hard to stop, though, when it's been so all consuming. Our kids are fantastic and perfect-whatever their size.

oh, you didnt make me feel bad at all!  you gave me hope!!  :)   i do think its true that they can shoot up and out at random times and unless they are not meeting milestones, its not much to be worried about.  its just so difficult not to worry when the doctor is constantly throwing low numbers and labels at you.

Me too! Alexander is still holding firm at the 2nd percentile lol.  Although preschool seems to be making him much hungrier.

  • And personally I would say a big "F U" to a FTT note when my child is clearly healthy and running around and talking etc.  FTT my ass.

You got t! And, I know!!, with the FTT stuff. It was so hard to hear. I think I spent so much of G's first year completely anxiety ridden. Sprinkling grow dust!

  • That is awesome news!

To be honest, we haven't weighed our little peanut in a while, so I am not sure what %ile he is in. But he's finally wearing normal sized clothes (mostly 2Ts and 3Ts) and keeps outgrowing his shoes, so I feel pretty good about it.
