DD had her 6 month shots on Friday. She was cranky for a few days after her 2 and 4 month shots so we were expecting the same but this time we are having new issues.
She started having fever after 6 hours or so after getting home on Friday night. I also got a call that my aunt and uncle were in a bad accident Friday night and were airlifted to the hospital so I was at the ER til 3 am. When I got home, my husband was rocking DD and she was hot, her temp was 100.7 and she had refused to take a bottle from him.
We gave her Tylenol every 4 hours as recommended (with the first dose 2 hours after her shots, before going to bed). She didn't sleep good that night obviously. Saturday, it was obvious that she was in a lot of pain as she screamed and cried every time we put her down or sat her down or moved her to a position that was painful. She'd only stop crying when she was held and walking. She ate fine though.
Saturday night she didn't sleep good either, lots of moaning and being hot. we had the AC on all night to keep her room cool. On Sunday she refused to breastfeed or take a bottle all day long. So from Saturday 6/7 PM to Sunday 7 PM she had 4 oz of breastmilk. We called the nurse line and took her in to ER. They gave her antinausea medicine and then had us give her pedialyte. She refused to take the pedialiyte. They were like well she looks ok, not too dehydrated, take her home and watch her tomorrow if she continues not eating call her doctor.
Well it's 1 PM on Monday and she has had 1.2 OZ of milk. I called the dr and we're taking her in at 3. Also since this morning her neck and chest is full of rash. I thought maybe it's heat rash but maybe it's not.
She is not hot nor has a fever but absoluetly refuses to eat. On the breast she just plays with it, doesn't suck and falls asleep right away. I tried waking her up, taking her to a light room. She gets frustrated and arches back and refuses to get back on the breast. She pushes the bottle out with her tongue. With much persistence I got 1.2 OZ in so far. I tried giving her milk and pedialyte via syringe she thrashes her head side to side and spits it out. It looks like we are torturing her trying to hold her head to keep the liquid in.
I'm beyond myself with worry. She pooped like 4 times on Saturday and had wet diapers throughout the day. Yesterday and today wet diapers are not heavy so it's concentrated urine. I have to examine each diaper to see if it's wet enough. The ER doc said she looked good for someone who hasn't eaten much in 28 hours. She was smiling if you didn't have a bottle in her face.
Has anyone had any experience like this? any advice?
I'm so stressed out with a child that doesn't eat and an aunt/uncle in ICU..
I hope this all makes sense. I've had very little sleep since Friday night so I am sorry for errors or sounding like a crazy frantic lady.
Re: Worried sick, DD not eating
that's weird that the doctors aren't more concerned. Is it possible she's having a reaction to the Tylenol as well?
I may be a crazy first time mom who worries a lot but I feel like if she's not eating for such long periods of time there is something wrong. I mean I am glad she's in good spirit and smiling but afraid that the not eating will catch up and she'll get really sick. ugh.
