~*~*MSPI Moms Weekly Check-In*~*~
Welcome! This is a check-in for moms who are/were on a dairy free and/or soy free diet due to their LO's intolerance. The check-ins will be posted every Monday morning on the Breastfeeding board and XP'd to the Food Allergy board. If you'd like to join the group, just post an intro here and dive in! To check out the archive of our previous check-ins, please see the MSPI Moms Blog.
It's been a couple of weeks since we've checked in. How is everyone doing? Anyone tried reintroducing dairy and/or soy recently? If so, how'd it go? If not, when do you plan to do so? Anything else you'd like to share?
Re: ~*~*MSPI Moms Weekly Check-In*~*~
Hi everyone!
We are doing good, diet-wise. (Not so good sleep-wise. I'm a tired mama today.) So now I've given DS yogurt, cheese, and butter, and he's done fine. A little gassier than normal but nothing major. I also have given him a bit of egg and he seems ok with that too. Yay!
PSA re: Chipotle - Last week I checked their allergen menu again, and like, everything has soy oil in it. Used to be the carnitas did not, but now they just list all meat as having soy oil. Bummer for those of us avoiding soy oil. You can pretty much only eat their salsa and gauc (but not their chips). Boo.
Things are going great here. DS2 has now had pretty much every dairy product but straight WCM & done fine!!! So I feel a lot better about weaning myself from the pump at work in a few weeks. Now I just have to figure out when/if/how to wean DS from nursing. I really don't want to wean anytime soon, but we want to TTC starting early next year. I'm hoping weaning from the pump will be enough to kick start my cycles again!
Thats a bummer about Chipotle. That used to be one of my staples when I was in the thick of MPSI diet.
I had half a piece of cheese hidden in a sandwich two weeks ago, and I didn't see any reaction in DS. I'm not ready to try any more, but I was relieved he had little to no reaction. I e also reintroduced caffeine back into my life. Mornings are better with a cup of coffee and coconut creamer!
I really miss pizza, though.
DH came home from the store with a Krusteaze pumpkin squares mix that has no dairy and can be made dairy free. Haven't tried it yet, but wanted to let everyone know it's out there.
What a bummer about chipotle! I know all the paleo folks go there for the carnitas salad in addition to MSPI mamas. We should start a letter writing campaign!

Our daughter E was born 7/29/2012!
Surprise, our 2nd daughter P was born 5/22/14!
I ate out Thursday and he was fussier and got a slight rash on his face Friday. When I ate out it I avoided obvious soy an dairy items but I assume them were in some of the stuff. He seem a little better after this weekend. It's just difficult to really know what the issue was/ is.
I'm also wondering if I'm giving him the reflux meds without them being necessary. Although he did "throw up" a ton and forcefully on Saturday. But did fine the rest of the day.
Gah. Being a FTM is difficult to know what's wrong. I don't know what "typical" is. He just seems uncomfortable when he spits up and he'll spit up if he's not held upright after eating.
That's a huge bummer about chipotle, that is one of my favorites.
=D>
I remember those early days second-guessing everything I ate and scrutinizing everything DS did. Heck, I still do that to some extent. I know how hard it is. Trust your mama intuition, you know your LO best. If your doc isn't giving you the answers you need, keep looking!
But also, try to take a step back and relax every now and then. The stress can really get to you. GL and I hope we can help!
DD2 is almost 20 months now. She can tolerate when I have some dairy/soy in packaged foods, but I still avoid major dairy/soy. She can also tolerate things like packaged dinner rolls with dairy/soy, I've just been too paranoid to try anything more yet.
She also has true allergies to peanuts, tree nuts, and eggs. She's still very interested in nursing, so we just keep on truckin'!

DD2: milk and soy protein intolerant, allergic to eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, bananas

His poops were totally normal and are now heading back to a more watery or mucousy look. I don't really know what else to cut out as I don't eat fish or shellfish and haven't had eggs in at least a month.
I haven't had pasta in several weeks either so I can't figure out what might be upsetting him. Otherwise he is not nearly as gassy or spitting up so much and is a relatively happy baby. He still doesn't sleep unless held but I keep trying.
I have become addicted to the Enjoy Life chocolate chunks and I think those will stay even after we get through MSPI.
Found a website selling top 8 allergen free candies but it is very expensive. I CRAVE gummy bears like no tomorrow so I may ask for some from that site as my Christmas gift from DH.

Another recipe I made was Soy Free Soy Sauce! It was delicious!

I've never made gummy bears, nor do I know what's in the gelatin packet. So that might not be helpful.
Is there anything else you've recently started eating more of? Your DS could be sensitive to something unexpected... For example, my DS has as severe a reaction to cabbage as he does to soy. Cabbage! Also when I've introduced certain foods to him he has different symptoms that seem to indicate they aren't agreeing with him, like sandy poop when I gave him buckwheat, and a rashy face when I give him chickpeas.
@shotzie: thanks for the tip re: those gummy candies! I will definitely look for those!
I'll have to check Target for gummy bears the next time we get out of town. Target is a good 45 minutes away so we only get there a couple times a year.
I am new to all of this! My LO is almost 5 months and starting today I am dairy, soy, egg, and nut free! I have been eating only chicken and white rice for 5 days while I waited to see the dr.
This is going to be difficult. I am also thinking I should just add glueten to the list just so I have everything covered.
I am hoping to find what is upsetting my LO's tummy
It's also possible he could be sick! When I first took DS in they ran a bunch of tests to see if he had a virus or something.
What about vitamins, supplements, medications? Lip balm often has soy in it too!

Thanks for the ideas. I have been on this diet for the last two months. I have cut out lettuce and will see if that changes anything. I'll try it again in 3 weeks and see if I get any change with that challenge. I am on all the same meds and the only real change is that I added in a dairy free probiotic a month ago trying to help heal both our bellies.
Of course after I am worried about it, little stinker hasn't pooped in 24 hours. Maybe he's finally going to regulate away from the million runny poops he's had since birth.
