Sleep routine for my 1 year old

Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting anything on here and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on sleep routines? My 1 year old sleeps in her crib at night but refuses to sleep in it during the day for her naps. I've tried cooling the room temp to keep it the same as night and darkened the room to help keep light out from the window when is time for her naps. She wants to sleep on the bed. When she falls to sleep I try moving her to her crib, that's when she explodes on crying mode. I've tried allowing her to adjust herself when this happens for 40 seconds but she sits up. So back to the bed we go again to continue her nap. Any suggestions for this first time mommy? :)

  • Have you tried letting her fuss for a while? I put some soft toys in the crib with my one year old, and that really helped. She will often play with her toys until she passes out. Does she have a lovey? That might help with separation anxiety.

  • I would do do cry it out too. You want to show her that napping in her crib is the only option. She has to stay in her crib in her room for an hour. You decide whether you just let he cry or go in and do checks and soothe her at increasing intervals. When we did CIO, we just let her cry because going in to check on her would make it worse. Now that she knows how to fall asleep in her crib, I go in and check on her if she starts crying but I try really hard not to pick her up unless she is really upset. When I am consistent with how I respond to her, that is when she does the best and cries the least (at first if course it will suck though since she is used to getting what she wants, but she will figure it out if you are consistent). Good luck! Sleep issues are so hard!
  • I think the other posters gave great suggestions...but also...can she not nap on the bed? if you remove pillows and blankets, at 1 and beyond...she could nap on the bed right? Unless she needs you there? Just another option i guess.
This is what I was thinking too.  I don't think CIO is evil or anything but it never worked for us.

  • I'd probably add a sound machine to drown out daytime noise, and if nothing else works, I say CIO.

I definitely didn't think of this. My DD is 14 months though and I would be really worried about her rolling off the bed or something. We don't trust her on the bed when she is awake, lol. She has no sense of gravity yet.
