February 2013 Moms

What gross mom things do you do?

Fess up to your gross mom behaviors if you dare to share :)

I admit that I:
Bite my son's nails
Smell his butt to see if he's pooped
Let him drool all over himself wearing just a diaper (prior to bathing him)
Pick earwax out of his ears with my pinkie nail
Pick his nose

  • I am so glad I'm not the only one who picks earwax out of LO's ear. Usually while she nursing because her ears are positioned perfectly for it. ;-)

I've been known to stick a finger in te leghole of DD's diaper to check if she's pooped. :-p

All this, plus when yesterday my dad asked if I had something to wipe the formula off her face, I took my hand and wiped it. He goes "ok, that works"

LMAO I do that all the time. PLus it is amazing how often I have barf on myself and i just don't care anymore lol A little water to wipe it off and back to doing what I am doing.

  • I pick earwax out of his ear, too, and I pick his nose on a semi-regular basis.  I also wipe all manners of things on my pants.

  • I don't bite her nails, but everything else - yep.

My BIL (who has a 1-year-old) was carrying around DD2 on Sunday and lifted her up and sniffed her butt. It was pretty funny. He said it was just a natural reaction to wondering if he had smelled something. He said he would have handed her back for changing if he had smelled something, though, as his reactions didn't stretch quite that far.

  • No nail bitting but everything else!

  • I do almost all this stuff! Pick her nose, pick ear wax out of her ears, pop the pacifier in my mouth to "clean" it, smell her butt and stick a finger in the diaper leghole to see if she pooped... being a mom is so glamorous ;)

  • No nail biting any more because i chipped my front teeth a few years ago and have fakes now, but i did it all the time with my oldest!

All this! I've done the finger diaper check, the sniff test, pick the ears and nose, lick the paci clean... But the grossest thing ive done was lick his face clean one time when i didn't have a cloth. It was ice cream. *shutter now*

  • PP you cracked me up!  I def do all of these things...the worst thing is that I don't find them to be gross when it involves my baby. But before baby when I'd see another mama do it...I thought they were gross!
  • I've pulled a classic move of my parents and licked my thumb to get stuff off of DS' face. And picking the ear wax happens on the daily lol. Whenever I pick at him, I feel like a mama orangutan on National Geographic haha. I can almost hear the narrator saying, "Watch as the mother primate cleans and picks at her young in an effort to remove waxy substances...."

  • Hahahahahaha!!! I do all of these things minus the nailbiting as well - though I can't say I didn't try it. I'm just more successful with clippers! I also usually sing songs about it like, "Stinky poop...Rory has stinky poop!" to the tune of "Hooray for Hollywood". :P

All of those things minus the nail biting.  Also, last night we let DS nub on a gummy bear (while I held on to it, of course) for like five seconds (I know, I know) and then I ate it.  What?  It was a perfectly good gummy bear.  With baby slobber on it.

This exactly!!!! Except it's when she's sitting on my lap and I'm picking at the crusties left from her cradle cap on her scalp. I think: I now have a better understanding of other primates... but at least I haven't started eating what I pick off her her yet, so I guess that's an important difference ;-)

  • Ive stopped the nail biting but did that. Also nose picking, wax removal, spit and rub (which I despised my mom for doing to me and vowed not to do it to my children), wipe breast milk off the corners of her mouth and wipe on me, her poop has a different smell than farts but even though Im certain I hold her butt to my face just to make sure!
  • Im obsessed about picking at his cradle cap (it's about ti fall off anyway!) and picking his nose. DS HATES having his nose messed with, so I try to be covert about it or do it when he's sleeping on me.

  • I can't recall any mom gross thing at this moment (although I'm sure there's plenty on the list), but my son does something gross that freaks me out. He LOVES to smell my armpit, and today while cuddling, he licked my sweat from my collarbone, then smiled and smacked his lips like he tasted something yummy. I wish he wanted to taste his food rather than me.

It was probably the salt from your sweat that tasted good, as gross as that sounds.

  • Guilty of all the above plus worse. Once, when dd had a really stuffy nose which the suction bulb wasn't relieving, I attempted to suck out the snot with my mouth. Dd was miserable and I was willing to do anything. I have since invested in nose freida.

:| Ok, you win! I'm officially grossed out (but in a giggly kind of way)!

  • Everything OP listed AND I was eating breakfast one morning, realized I didn't wash my hand that I had used to catch spit up with (I had dried it on a rag) and kept eating anyways. That's pretty gross (upon reflection- must have been the early weeks).
