Trying to Get Pregnant

BFN and an intro

I've lurked, read the intro boards, and feel ready to join in the fun. So here we go.
I'm a 25-year-old high school teacher; DH is 26. We have a beautiful blonde-haired, blue-eyed blessing in the form of a rambunctious and busy two-year-old we call L. We didn't necessarily try for L. We "removed the goalie" in December of 2010 and by January of 2011 we were pregnant.

Not so easy with baby #2.

I stupidly assumed above method (remove birth control, add candles and lingerie) would be just as effective, but all these negative tests are seriously getting me down. I just joined fertility friend and am trying to embrace the world of charting, which I'll admit, seems a bit intimidating.

I will do my very best not to ask dumb questions, and I plead for forgiveness if I do. As of right now, I am two days late and quite a bit poorer thanks to a handful of clear blue digital pregnancy tests, all mocking me with the dreaded "Not Pregnant."

So anyway...here I am! Hoping my stay is short, but excited to get to know you. :)

Re: BFN and an intro

  • Thanks, ladies! Trying really hard not to get my hopes up that this is a false negative. I know that's ridiculous. I'm not sure anything has ever made me as silly and illogical as ttc.

    Welcome!

I also have a 2 year old and I got pregnant with him after only one month of trying. I hopd #2 would come as easily but here I am month 2 of trying (and I know that really isn't long at all). I have been charting for a while but I just started temping and using OPKs (I am a little overwhelmed by it all).

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!

I don't even know how to use an OPK at this point. Seriously. I'm that far behind. lol. I am definitely overwhelmed. The first baby led me to believe pregnancy was far easier to come by than this. ;) Good luck to you, too!
  • Welcome and goodluck :)
  • Welcome!  I agree with PP, save the digitals to confirm once you get a faint line on a cheaper test.

Welcome and good luck. You say you're 2 days late, did you confirm O with temping and OPKS? Otherwise there's no way to know for sure. Also I suggest Wondfo tests from amazon and saving the digis to use a as confirmation if you get a BFP on a wondo. Much much cheaper
Okay, I'm really about to reveal my ignorance here. My period has always been eerily consistent. The symptoms, too. So when I was on day 31 (the 3rd of this month) of my cycle, I prepared myself for a period and the inevitably sore boobs.
    No period.
Now it's the sixth, and I'm just now starting to spot. I assume my period was just late. I'm certainly not taking another test. I understand a bfn when I see one. ;)
Thanks so much for the advice. I'm investing in OPKS this weekend to become a little more aware of what I'm dealing with here. I may will have lots of questions, I'm sure.
Thanks for the warm welcome. Loving it here already! :)

Welcome! I love your attitude so far.

I'm glad you are willing to chart -- you will honestly learn so much about your body and it takes so much of the guesswork out of TTC. (I am not officially trying yet, but charting all the same).

Enjoy yourself here, the ladies are fantastic!

ETA: Hmmm, except for the baby dust. Uh-uh. ;)

Not trying, barely preventing until we finish renovating. Assuming we ever finish.

I agree; the ladies are awesome. I feel absolutely ridiculous for not starting to be proactive sooner. I have learned SO much just from lurking, and I am a little embarrassed about what I should have remembered (and didn't) from 9th grade health class. Eek.
I'm excited! This has been my favorite part of ttc so far. Besides the sex. ;)

Eek. Okay, I missed the memo somewhere on baby dust. Is that taboo here? I thought it was a good thing. Teach me, wise one! ;)

Ha ha Let's not say things we can't take back...

NBD, it's just one of those weird cutesy things that a lot of gals here aren't a fan of.

Got it! Cutesy crap is out! Thank you for the pointer. ;)
  • I am sort of in the same boat. We have 3 year old twins. We also just "removed the goalie" and bam...twins. I really thought this time would be the same, but we started trying at the end of June and still no BFP :( I seem to ovulate at different times in my cycle so this cycle we just decided to have sex every other day instead of OPK. My husband doesn't seem to mind this at all! lol

  • Welcome! Good luck!! I have  learned so much about my body since I started tracking everything!

  • Welcome! This site is awesome. I came here thinking I knew heaps about charting, and managed to learn a whole heap within about the first 30 seconds...
Have fun getting to know you body, TTC aside it's pretty fascinating to see how it all works!

    Good luck!
  • Welcome and GL!! PPs have given great pointers: Wondfos save your wallet and baby dust makes us sneeze ;)

  • I come with a very similar story, except my blonde-haired, blue-eyed blessing arrived in 2012. :)

It stinks to see this side of the coin and I agree it can be intimidating, but it's been pretty cool to learn about charting, OPKs, etc.

    Welcome and good luck!
