Success after IF

Should I switch earlier or later?

I want to switch OB's this time around.  My first is down in the med center in Houston--which was fine when I worked downtown--but now I work and live over 45 minutes to an hour away in a complete other part of town.  I do not want to have to go down there for every.single.appointment and to deliver when there are really great hospitals right by my house and work.  I've been with my OB for quite some time and she is well aware of my history (pre-e, iugr, etc.) so I sort of feel like maybe I should go to her for the first appointment or the first couple of appointments...plus, if (God forbid) something didn't work out and I ended up not pregnant, I would probably stick with her as my gynecologist because I have been with her 5+ years.

Should I go ahead and look for someone now?  Or make my first appointment with my previous OB?  I know they won't want to see me until 7-8 weeks, but I feel like if I do decide to switch I probably need to go ahead and make the appointment now.

  • I would stick with the original at least through the NT/Materniti21 or other 1st tri tests. Some docs won't routinely order those yet, and your current doc will probably be more willing to do whatever early tests you ask for, since they know your history.

That is a good idea!  She ordered them last time. Plus, this really good genetics lab is right across the hall from her that does all of the testing and last time I got to get a sex DNA test at 12 weeks for free with a referral from her.

  • I would go to your first and I am more than sure she will understand your situation with commute etc and ask her for a referral to someone good she recommends. That way she can pass on your file to someone she trusts as well.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

  • I kinda like the idea of switching after the biggie tests and stuff are done.  And then maybe he/she can recommend someone to you wherever you are looking to go.
