Many people say their dogs notice their owner being pregnant. What about you? One of mine started laying across my belly today (14 weeks) which she never does. Thought this might be a fun thread!
I just have one dog, and she definitely laid with me a lot when I was sickly and moving brought more nausea than moving was worth. She's normally a daddy's girl, so that was different.
One of my cats - ok, MY cat since DH's cat only likes me when I'm sleeping and only then to use me as a sleeping pad - has been very cuddly lately. Since I got pregnant right around the time we had to put down our other cat, I'm not sure if the cuddly is because I smell different due to pregnancy or if he's afraid he'll go away, too.
"I can see light at the end of the tunnel, but I hope it's not another bastard with a torch holding more work."
"I don't always know what I'm talking about. I often don't know what I'm talking about. But it pisses me off when I do know what I'm talking about and people don't believe me."
I don't have dogs, but I do have cats and one of mine only likes me when I'm pregnant lol. She doesn't dislike me, but she just tends to ignore me, except when I'm pregnant, then she is my best friend and wants to be at my side any time I am sitting. She stopped as soon as DD was born and started again pretty early this time around.
All three of my pups have been extra clingy and cuddly and it's just getting worse. Mostly I don't mind some cuddles but my smallest is 75lbs to having all three try to sit on my lap at once is crazy. We went paddle boarding with two of them that like to swim and they wouldn't leave my board so I was stuck with 175 lbs of dog and my own weight on the board. So cute but I think DH wants some love too pups. Pic is three of us on the paddle board.
I have one dog and although he's normally pretty snuggly, I can't go anywhere around my house without him now! He follows me literally everywhere and if I close doors, like going to the bathroom, he sits in front of the door and whines until I come out. Its even worse when i leave the house. DH has noticed that if i leave, our pup lays by the front door and cries.. He would normally just go over to dh and play or relax. He has also started making a point of laying his head on my belly. It's adorable but it is starting to get annoying.
Both of my cats have gone crazy, all they want is to cuddle up on top of me. We have 3 dogs in the house, but we are watching them for a relative and I was never around them before, so I think they might just be attention crazy anyway.
My dogs also have started to lay across my belly too! We have an 8mo old pup and he is also being extra clingy. He has also started to bark excessively when I take him on a walk and there is another person or dog nearby. He has never done that before.
I have to laugh, I thought I was going a little crazy thinking our critters were acting differently. All cats and dogs are acting much more moochy with me, following me around, constantly shadowing me, and they all want to lay on top of me all the time! It's something my husband and I have discussed - how to teach them about this baby that will be coming home. I read somewhere that prior to birth, you should start carrying a doll wrapped in a blanket around and teach the dogs they can sniff, but no jumping, pawing, etc. towards the doll. We might talk to our dog trainer a little bit more about preparing the dogs for the baby. Personally, I think they're going to be psyched that our little spud will be a food dispenser from his high chair.
My dog started sleeping in the room with me as soon as I got pregnant. Like, he HAS to sleep in there, where before he might sleep a in different room.
Yes! my little shih tzu, who normally doesn't give anyone the time of day, will not leave my side. It started just before we actually found out. Most recently, she wakes up in the middle of the night, and comes to sleep on my shoulder. It's very sweet, but I'm getting a little concerned about the clingy-ness and her reaction to the baby once it arrives...
My older dog (who is most definitely MY dog) acted weird before I even hit 14dpo. My neighbor has 2 labs who Riz has played with multiple times and loves but at about 10dpo they came up to me and were sniffing me and Riz freaked out on them. She wouldn't let them near me. She is more affectionate and protective of me. If our other dog is between her and me Riz gets upset too.

My dog is currently laying on my feet as I work on the computer! she whines when I go to the bathroom without her and will sleep right next to me when I'm sitting on the couch. normally she goes and sleeps in her bed, but lately, she wants to cuddle up next to me. It's so sweet!
My girl dog is all over me, and smae with my puppy (who is 140lbs). They sniff at me, sit where I'm at, follow me and just have to right on top of me. My other boy dog could care less.
@NoelleZako, I know exactly what it's like have lots of big dogs all over you
my boy dog is very intuitive and started acting out and going potty in the house when i got pregnant. he is also never away from my side although that is pretty normal

One if our dogs is usually pretty clingy (momma's girl) but she is being extra protective. Our other dog (daddy's girl) really hasn't changed her behavior at all.
My dog is normally a mama's girl, but she's become even more so now - she just completely ignores my DH and won't leave my side for even a second. Before, she use to sleep on her bed by our bedroom window (across from our bed), but now she sleeps right next to the bed. It's pretty precious.
Yes! My puppy used to be rather ornery with me at times, but now he is sweet as can be all the time. Before we confirmed we were pregnant, he began laying across my tummy and was extra loving. I even asked him one day (yes I speak to my dog all the time) if he knew something we didn't know. Sure enough, he did! It has been really cool.
Wow what is wrong with my pups! Lol Neither of my dogs have changed their ways at all. We normally don't allow them on furniture or in bed with us so cuddling is out unless I lay on the floor. Plus my one dog has always followed me around the house and still does. I'm kind of hoping this is a good sign they won't change when the baby comes either! Fingers crossed! :-)

My dogs have been extra clingy too! It's crazy how they can tell something's up.
My Boston terrier has been VERY attached. He lays outside the shower on the bath mat, which he never previously did. Also if I shut the door when I go to the bathroom he gets very stressed and sits pressed up against the door. He also tries to herd DH and I into the same room. He gets extra clingy at night when DH isn't home... A Boston terrier "guarding" the front door is really not very intimidating
My two labs are by me all the time! I wake up in the middle of the night with one curled up near my belly, the other on the opposite side of my legs. My body is literally in an "s" shape! My DH has plenty of room on his side of the bed....
Also, my younger female dog (she'll be 2 tomorrow!!) is very protective. If she hears something she'll come sit by me and bark. It makes me laugh! Love my fur babies!!!
My sweet girl sits outside the bathroom whenever I'm vomiting and has the most worried look on her face when I come out. Whenever I'm laying on my side she curls up where the baby is. So cute! They definitely know!
My doggies (and cats too) have been extra cuddly. My dog Paddington is usually very cuddly and clingy but my dog Phoebe has always been very hyper and usually never has time to cuddle.. I was thinking it was because she's out growing her puppy phase but after reading this post it makes more sense to me! Dogs are wonderful.
My dog started licking my legs, which I hate......I was joking with my husband that maybe she knew I was pregnant before I could know and sure enough a week later I tested and it was positive......I think she knew before I did and she was being protective.
Prior to being pregnant our dog would never bark at anything he saw outside. Since I've was pregnant with DS 5 years ago he has barked at everything from a leaf or bird on the patio to a person walking 2 blocks away or someone on their patio.
