Transitioning to crib

We decided to move our 10 week old to his own room and crib last night. He woke up much more than usual. He would be soothed really easily, but still work up more than usual. Is this normal? Does it typically take them a few days to get used to it then go back to their normal waking schedule?
thanks

Re: Transitioning to crib

  • Completely normal. It is a different environment, so when they would normally just fall back asleep they actually realize they are in a different place, and need soothed. I would expect to see a similar sleep pattern to what you had within a week.

We transitioned our little one from me (haha, she'd only sleep when she was on me) to the crib about two weeks ago. It took her a few days to get used to it, but now she's doing just fine at night by herself. I did try the technique that I read on here about using a heating pad to warm up the crib first, so it isn't so cold. That helped tremendously as LO would wake almost immediately due to the temperature change. Nowadays I don't need to do the heating pad trick, but it certainly helped me get her to go down for the night. Best of luck with your LO!
Can I ask how old your LO was when you transitioned her from on you to the crib?  My DS only sleeps on me at night and I need to start to transition him to the crib.  Would love to hear more from you and your tips & tricks! :)
  • We have an 8 week old and started transitioning last night, she did okay after her last feeding (10pm) but we tried starting her there at 7 and she fussed a lot, same thing tonight - hoping she gets used to it soon and will spend all night there. Good luck!
