When did your LO start babbling with consonant sounds?
DS is 7 months and VERY vocal (calls out for attention from people and constantly "talks"), but he is still mostly making vowel sounds. Every now and then we will get a "Maaaaa" sound, but no repeating of the consonant. A lot of what I've read says it should start between 4-6 months, but we just took a Mommy & Me class where all of the kids were between that age and none of them were doing it yet.
Just wondering if I should be concerned (and call the dr) or if this is one of those things you read and then find out a lot of babies don't do it later.
Re: Babbling?
Our little guy is 8 months, and he just recently started saying Momma, bobba, pop pop. When he was 7 months, he was still just kind of babbling and yelling. Within the last two weeks he really started saying words with intention. It is good that he is trying to talk. Every baby develops at their own pace, and I don't think something like this would warrant a call to the Dr. If you are still concerned at the 9month check up, bring it up then.
I'm sure your LO will be babbling your ear off pretty soon!! Good Luck!!

We just went to DDs 6 month appointment (she is 26 weeks now, and on Wednesday will be "6 months"-I never know when these milestones will be hit!) and the doctor asked about babbling. I explained she was still doing a lot of "ahhh" and laughing but rarely will give me a constanent (some "ba" and "ga"). BUT, she's also already rocking on all fours and doing variations of crawling, sits just fine unsupported, can get into a sitting position with minimal support-so the doctor said that babies who seem pretty advanced in one area will lag behind in another area since they focus more on the other aspect.
she said given that my DD seems to be hitting physical milestones fast, that it wouldn't be out of the realm of normal that she doesn't really "babble" for another couple months. she said if at 8 months my DD still isn't really babbling then I should bring it up, but it's not a concern until then.
My son cooed & made some sounds (like the ng in "hungry" & the ts in "its") really early & just in the last two weeks started repeating da. He finally cut those two front bottom teeth at the same time! He played with them with his tongue like crazy right before the da-ing took off.
