The things people say... Vent!

I am so tired of the comments people keep making about my LO!!! I am very pale with blonde hair, my husband is not as pale (but close) and has light brown hair. My 2 year old is a mini me! Her hair is white blonde and she's very pale.... My LO has black hair (so did my oldest when she was born) and because of jaundice she has a yellow skin tone. I am so sick of the "mail man jokes". My husband and I laugh them off but it's getting old! My mail person is a female!!! Any comments your getting tired of?

Re: The things people say... Vent!

  • My DH is part Japanese, I am blonde/blue/burn-in-the-shade-pale. LO doesn't look a lot like me (which I expected).

Whenever someone says something about how he looks like DH, I say "I am hoping he will *act* like me!" and smile.

I think you just have to have a sense of humor about these things.

The other day, I was out with LO and got to thinking - I wonder if anyone will think I adopted him because children adopted from China are pretty common around here. It doesn't really matter what strangers think, LO will know who his parents are :-)

  • DS has blonde hair and blue eyes while DH and I both have dark hair and eyes. We *always* get comments. I've tried the humor thing and I've tried to explain how genetics work when I get tired of rolling with the punches. My usual response is, "if he didn't look just like DH otherwise it would have me wondering, too."

  • Directed at me-- "She's really pretty, are you sure she's yours?"
    Or
"Her hair has a reddish tint, what's the mailman look like?"

God people are an observant bunch arent they. Earlier my sisters mil was holding my ds was he was crying hysterically for the bottle i was making him and she kept cooing at him about how the poor baby isnt getting enough to eat. Bil responds. Trust me he gets pleanty he eats four to six ounces every two or three hours.

He is almost 3 weeks old. I don't think so. I think it is around the middle of the percentiles. He was 7 lbs 11 oz when he was born and is now only at around 8lbs 5 oz

Lol I think it is cute too. I think she is calling him fat because his face is fuller than when he was born. At least you know he is eating well. My MIL is just kind of a douche. She finally came to see LO and that is pretty much all she had to say. I said he isn't fat. She said oh really you don't think so? Well I think he is getting fat. -_-

I hate how SO's I guess stepdad?, is always like ooooo that's just like her grandma, she is going to act just like her grandma...blah blah blah. Thanks but my child is just like herself, she has her own personality, and quite frankly it is nothing like mil. Or I hate when people comment, "oh she has a pacifier, I never gave my kids one because they came into this world without it so why would they need it." It's like thanks for the comment but LO loves her pacifier and I'd rather not be a human pacifier myself, but good for you. Oh yeah and babies come into this world without alot of things, does that mean we shouldn't dress our children? I don't think so. Vent over!
What the hell kind of reasoning is that? SMH.

That's what I'm saying! The things people say are ridiculous! I thought pregnancy comments were bad, but parenting comments are by far the worst!
  • DD looks a lot like me but there's some of DH too. I feel bad when people says she looks nothing like him. He'll never admit it but I can see it hurts him when he hears that.

  • I agree parenting comments are worse. Yes i let my ds cosleep after 7. Yes he has a passy, yes he is formula fed. You can accept my choices as a parent or we can talk about what you do wrong since you think your so perfect.

That goes out to the childs right activist i know. She is so offended i am open to spanking, but im offended she smokes around her daughter.

  • My two older kids don't even look like siblings, but they are. Their looks make "sense" when you see DH and I with them. We have received comments too...no big deal. It isn't worth the stress.

  • My least favorite thing is when LO is screaming in public and people are like "oh I love that sound!" I'm like ugh.

Tell me you let your 7 year old sleep in bed with you, he still uses a pacifier and you give him formula, because that is hilarious!

    Somebody actually said that??!!
Many people have said this! They miss the sound of a crying newborn, apparently. That's definitely not something I would miss.

"Is she sleeping through the night?"

    She is a month old...seriously?!

Yes! This one drives me crazy too! Or "sleep while the baby sleeps". I have a 3 year old, I can't just sleep when the baby sleeps.
  • Same here my LO has bright red hair and is white as can be! Nothing like my husband at all except she has his nose, the comments are getting old!
  • My same ass hat neighbor who told me he was tired first thing when he came over when DS was 5 days old also immediately chimed in when other neighbor asked one of us to take in her trash can while she was on vacation how he couldn't do it because he was getting teeth pulled and would be "dead to the world". Ok guy...I just pushed a baby out of my vagina and haven't slept in months, but I know getting your teeth pulled must be rough. Lazy sot.

I went dead to the world after my epi. And again when the nurses took ds for his after birth tests. I was gone.

Ive had teeth pulled twice and oral surgery twice. I couldve moved a trash can on the first day inbetween trips to vicodin land.
