Sympathy weight

Anyone put on the baby yet? If so, why?

Re: Sympathy weight

  • I put on weight because my wife was constantly sending me out for late night burger and ice cream runs. When you're going through the drive through all the time or constantly keeping ice cream in the house, it's hard not to partake.

This, add the fact that I work nights, have my meal at 7pm then get home, have supper and a beer before bed. I've hovered around 12-18 lbs sympathy weight this pregnancy.
  • But, question is, do you go to the gym along with all of that? My wife does the same thing...and the ice cream is for me :) but I go to the gym a lot. So it hasn't packed on at all. I just figured there had to be dads like me.
  • There are some dads especially the highly active ones that might not gain weight.  I was able to keep my weight in check since MW didn't have too many outrages requests except that I was not allowed to use real maple syrup that my dad still makes with relatives at all.

The gym. Consists of a pull-up bar above my door frame and sit ups with my toes under the couch. I do pull ups with my son between my legs. He loves it, plus it's an extra 40 lbs.

  • I was at my heaviest weight before she got pregnant (stupid holidays).  I signed up for Tough Mudder and started training around February.  I've been doing Insanity and running pretty consistently since then so I'm down to 189 lbs (I was at 205).

Things got a little hairy around the 2nd trimester when she got over her morning sickness and was sending me to Taco Bell every night.  It's pretty sad when the guy at the drive thru starts recognizing you.

Oh my gawd! I can't wait to workout with my kid! (Well, workout with him as a weight at least to start). My biggest source of inspiration is mike Katz in "pumping iron" playing with his kids. It just seems like his kids idolized him so much and wanted to be like him. That's how I want to be.
