April 2014 Moms

Plus size mommies weekly check-in

Good Morning Ladies,

I was hoping to see this thread so I decided to start it. I enjoyed the chat on the last thread.

I'm 10 weeks and just got back from my first midwife appointment. I was scared to look at the scale but it wasn't so bad. I was surprised with another ultrasound today. I am feeling good and Olive Garden for lunch sounds so good right now...lol.

How is everyone doing? When are you due? What's your major craving?

Re: Plus size mommies weekly check-in

  • I'm doing ok I got a bad cold totally not liking it because I actually miss my nausea. The cold made it go away so now I feel like something's wrong. I'm due April 28/29 still dk yet. And of course since I'm sick I'm cravin the one big mucous causer milk lol I want cereal so bad! So for lunch I had grilled ham & cheese with tomato and soup.

  • I'm doing really well now that I'm on zofran, it's made everything better! Also we went to the doctor last Friday and did an ultrasound and the baby is measuring perfectly with a nice healthy heartbeat. I was surprised when the doctor told me to gain 20-30 lbs, I was expecting him to tell me to gain less and watch it instead he was really laid back about it all. I'm due April 11th and craving chili cheese fries and chili cheese burritos.

  • I'm due April 28th but haven't been to the doctor yet so who knows if that'll stay the same. I'm exhausted! All I would like to do is sleep! These 11 hour work days are killing me! The last week I've been getting more morning sickness than I have been. I've been starting to her heartburn too. I can't wait for our first u/s. Two more weeks though

  • Hi ladies! Happy Monday! I'm up four pounds from when I found out, which I feel is not bad. I'm retaining a lot of water and my ankles tend to swell in the heat which makes me feel suuuuper attractive, thanks for that. Week 7 and still no morning sickness, though nausea has gotten worse this last week. I think that's where part of my weight gain has come from; I usually eat super healthy and now the only thinks tasting good to me are fruit, bland carbs, Campbell's chicken noodle (weird since I usually hate processed foods) and frozen yogurt and fruit pops. Now I have a new challenge: trying to find tank tops with built-ins that will hold my huge ta-tas that won't strain my neck (built-ins usually do) so I can sleep without my boobs feeling like they're about to fall off, an a plus-size maternity swimsuit in the off-season so I can take water aerobics classes. My old suit is already tiiiiiiiiight. Any suggestions on where to look greatly appreciated!

  • Hi ladies!! I'm at 9w5d today (due April 9, 2014), and I'm feeling pretty good most of the time now. My boobs are slightly tender, mild nausea is only occasional, but my heartburn just won't quit. Thankfully, I'm craving salmon and sauteed vegetables. Last night I had a red velvet whoopie pie with cream cheese frosting - delightful!! I don't know whether I've gained or lost weight. My maternity clothes are fitting nicely around my belly, but my pants keep falling down, so maybe I've lost a few pounds. Our doctor doesn't want me to know my weight because she doesn't want me to worry. She said she'll check my weight at appointments, and she'll only say something if she gets concerned.

I hope you'll all check out my recipes on Sunday nights. I'm going to start posting (mostly) healthy, tasty recipes every week. Last night I posted about the veggie cheese soup I created. It is divine! I think I called the thread "Best supper EVER".

I've been trying to figure out ways to add more fish to my diet...I'll check out your recipes and you have to share your salmon recipe because I'm trying to figure out how to cook it so I like it.

9 weeks here.  I feel like I could be the spokesperson for a Pepto commercial.  Nausea, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, diarrhea.  Got it all.  Miserable.  I haven't gained any weight yet, but I'm soo soo soo bloated.  I took advantage of the old navy sale right now.  25% off of maternity, plus an extra 15% off with the code ONEXTRA15.  I got 2 pairs of pants, 1 jeans, 2 sweaters.

I purchased a couple of tops and bottoms from JCP...I needed a few items so I wouldn't feel so uncomfortable sitting at my desk. Each item averaged about $11 and they also had a pretty good sale.

  • Doing good, sore/itchy boobs, queasiness, tired, some cramping stil, moody, snarky....

Per the bump due 4/24/14, hope to get a better idea at my 9w u/s.

cravings, spicy, buffalo wings (no blue cheese : ( salt and vinegar chips, grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches.

Lost 7lbs, but I go up and down w/the same 5 lbs.

You are a lucky momma with those cravings...my heartburn is so bad. Sometimes I feel like a dragon...lol.
  • 9 weeks 4 days. I have lost 5 lbs because of all my nausea and vomiting. Still pretty sick but I am making it through.

It seems too soon but my pants are already tight. My belly looks so much bigger. I look more pregnant than my friend who is 18 weeks. Oh well. I actually look forward to looking noticibly pregnant. Since having my son I have gained a lot of weight in my middle and look possibly pregnant even when I wasn't.

  • Hey ladies! I had a horrible weekend of back pain and random waves of nausea. Went out to run errands for my impending wedding and made it until 1pm before I completely crashed on the couch.

Poor fiancé--no sex in over a week and he had to put up with my sob fest on Saturday night about how much I hate our bed. To be fair it is a cheap memory foam that has nearly completely broken down, it's like putting a pillow on a box spring. So for my wedding gift, he let me pick out a Tempurpedic like I have been wanting for ages and it arrives in five days!

Our first doctors visit is tomorrow morning but I don't think they'll do an ultrasound--sounds like a blood draw and chat about health history. But soon! Only another month until my first REAL OB appt ;)
  • Hi ladies!  I'm either 7w4d or 8w4d (going for another dating ultrasound on Friday) with our first.

I've had no real cravings (or many symptoms) the entire time.  Although, last night, some leftover chocolate chip pancakes topped with bananas were a must.  Otherwise, eating healthy (I usually do this) and just trying to make sure I get enough fruit, veg, etc.

I do not own a scale, so I have no idea if the weight at the dr. last week was different than pre-pregnancy weight.  Today was the first day that I haven't had major bloat - my dress pants actually were almost comfortable.  I have bought a few things from JCP and Old Navy, but have not made any real wardrobe changes yet.

I hope everyone is doing well!

  • 8 weeks today and exhausted. But other than that no real symptoms. I had bad heartburn (which I went to my Chiropractor and he helped me ease that. Thank god!) and I had bad nausea too for the first 3 1/2 weeks. Now they are both gone and I'm just exhausted.
I've only gained 2lbs but nothing fits so it feels like a million. Lol

Cravings? BK cheese burgers have never tasted so good and salad and milk or any dairy for that matter. My brother asked if all I wanted for Christmas was gc to BK Lol I said that's this months craving lets see what December brings.
  • Hey!  I'm 9w5d and currently my clothing is fitting just fine.  I had gestational diabetes with my previous pregnancy so already I'm trying to keep to a low carb diet and watching my sugars.  With all that plus nausea I'm down about eight pounds.  My DR really hasn't given a specific number to gain but I'll be honest, I want it to be as minimal as possible.  I completely agree with @biggerinreallife on the tanks with shelf bras.  I cannot sleep without them.  My boobs feel like bowling balls and my nipples are constantly tender.

Glucose test this Wednesday....wish me luck!

I'm 9 weeks today. The nausea is really bad and now the headaches are kicking in. Been 2 days of migraine. I'm kind of wishing I could sleep through the rest of this trimester.

I've been shopping the goodwill and local consignment shops to find maternity clothing. I haven't really found much. Spent about $100 at Target on pants and I'll be getting a couple things during the old navy sale as well.

I really feel fat. My husband says I don't look any different which was the right things to say, but my clothes are all too tight even though I've lost a new 5 lbs this last month...not on purpose mind you but 5 lbs is 5 lbs.

    ETA stupid auto correct.

  • Hey ladies! Well I haven't weighed myself in a week because our scale is still packed away from our move. I'm able to eat "normally" again, but I'm constantly nauseated and the thought if food makes me sick. The mucous doesn't help. Anyway, I hope I haven't gained much. I'd lost about 5lbs from not eating at all when MS was at its worst a few weeks ago. I wear mostly maternity clothes already because a tight band on my tummy is pure hell. Clothes fit funny right now, but I don't feel like I'm any bigger.
I'm not very active these days as I'm exhausted and feeling crummy. Waiting for the magical 2nd tri!

Charlyse I've got a good salmon recipe! Super healthy and tastes like a good alternative to fried fish.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Take a salmon filet and salt and pepper it. Put it on a hot stone or foil lined tray skin side down. Spread the top of the fillet with Dijon mustard. Feel free to go heavy - for some reason you don't really taste it. Take panko breadcrumbs and press them on top of the mustard so they stick. Spray the panko with extra virgin olive oil spray, so they get color in the oven. Cook for 15 minutes until salmon is done and tops are golden. If tops aren't golden put it under the broiler for 30 seconds.

This is great with any side, but our favorite is a quinoa salad with tomatoes and cucumbers.

  • 10 weeks and 4 days here, due April 3rd unless we get a new date when we meet with our doctor tomorrow. So far haven't gained anything, though that hasn't been what I expected each time I've gotten on the scale as I feel like my stomach is incredibly distended.

I'll be checking with the doctor tomorrow as well to see what she recommends as a healthy weight gain through this pregnancy. Being at 255 on a 5'4 frame I'm expecting it to be a lower amount than the "typical" pregnancy, but it will be interesting to see what she says!

Morning sickness is starting to fade, but I think this may be in relation to switching to a multivitamin and folic acid supplements, it has been a life saver!

  • Hi ladies!
I am 6 weeks 4 days due April 30th and I am so sick! This weekend I was unable to keep anything down but crackers! I went to a nutritional class today which was really informative and I definitely suggest it for FTM! For instance, we aren't supposed to eat unpasterized cheese therefore we cannot eat queso! I didn't know that. I ordered some maternity clothes from Old Navy and I am really excited for them to get here. I haven't been craving much due to being so sick, but today I did crave a bagel and cream cheese.
  • I feel like I could live off of bagels and cream cheese right now. Until of course I have it, and then I won't be able to stand the thought of it for a few weeks ;)

  • Had my first appointment and U/S today.  I have gained about 5 lbs from when I found out, which I do every first trimester.  I get all day sickness, which means I eat carbs only for the first 3 months.  Usually I lose a little of it the 2nd trimester.  I'm a little bummed because they want me to do an early glucose test because of my weight, so I'll have to do that next month.  She told me to do whatever I have to do to get through the first trimester, and then we can talk about seeing a dietician if I want in the 2nd to help with diet/weight gain.
  • Hi ladies! I'm 8w4d with my 2nd. I craved fruit and salads with my first, but this time the cravings havent hit yet. That's nice and I'm trying to continue to eat healthy. It's been super hot here inSoCal,ate,y, so my biggest challenge has been getting out and getting moving. I'm hoping to start back up at the gym this week to just walk on the treadmill or get on the elliptical. I'm hoping to curb any weight gain by staying active. But chasing a toddler while pregnant is exhausting already! For those looking for tank tops, I'd suggest getting some nursing tanks from Target or Motherhood maternity. I got the XL when I was 3 or 4 months last time and they were great for sleeping. Plus, then I could use them after my DD was here.
  • Thanks for the tip @MsLonginSD!

  • Hi Ladies! I'm 8w 5d and I have my second OB and third US on Thursday. My doctors are monitoring me closer since I had an ectopic in March and they thought I might be having another one since my HCG levels were pretty high and they didn't see much on the US the first time, but when I went for my second we saw bean and the heartbeat. I just dropped $250 at Old Navy for maternity clothes. Other than that, M/S had returned along with the tired, hungover feeling. I haven't weighed myself so I'll see on Thursday if I've gained. Trying to eat healthier, but carbs have been my go-to. Today I had chicken cutlets stuffed with spinach and rice and it seems to be sitting ok. I was eating salmon 3 times a week before the M/S so I hope to go back to eating it after I feel less queasy.
  • @aronie82 I met with my doctor yesterday and she pulled out a chart to see how much I should gain. According to the chart, she said, "About 15lbs, with 35lbs being on the higher end of things."

Hope that helps! BTW, the chart said 15lbs, and she gave me the 35lbs "limit" or high scale to supplement what the chart said.

  • Plus size mini-vent: first doctors appointment when I called myself "high risk" they corrected me that they'll treat me like a "normal healthy pregnant woman" unless I develop a complication. After which they then corrected themselves to say "well a normal pregnant woman"... Minus the healthy.

    Gee, thanks.
  • FWIW. My last pregnancy I was told a average weight person should gain 25 to 35 lbs during pregnancy and and overweight woman should gain 15 to 25 lbs. I was only 10 lbs overweight pre pregnancy last time and I kept my weight gain at 25 lbs. I lost it all but then started packing on the pounds after weaning my son. It got a little out of control. This time I am starting at nearly 50 lbs overweight. I might be aiming for closer to the 15 lb number this time. I have lost 7 lbs already because I have been so sick. That might make 15 lbs doable.

  • Ehhhh. I was feeling pretty good--the scale was ten pounds LESS than my last WeightWatchers weigh in two months ago. I don't know when or why the loss happened, but I'll take it!

Plus, I've been tracking all my food (even the naughty cravings) on My Fitness Pal, and I've never eaten this healthy before. So they can say what they want, I'll keep doing the best I can to put the "healthy" back into their vocabulary ;)

She also said in front of my fiancé that I appear to be a medical anomaly as she can't understand why my BP, cholesterol and glucose levels are lower than most "normal" women. So in yo face, Nurse!
  • I barely have an appetite. I start off good in the am but after that its all downhill. If i didnt force myself to eat i wouldnt. And when i fo get hungry and eat its unsatisfying. Fruits r good veggies have been minimal. Carbs way up. And havent hit the gym in weeks.
  • @stace0616 me too! My numbers are all normal, and my bp is crazy low! Lol nurse..

And that's awesome @oopsbaby14! I ordered a bunch of stuff from Old Navy and it should be here tomorrow. These pants aren't gonna be working out too much longer, lol sigh.

  • 10 weeks tomorrow for me.  My last pregnancy was actually a great weight loss program for me.  I ended up losing 15 lbs after I delivered.  This time I am so hungry all I want to do is eat.  I'm trying to eat as much fruit as I can to pull back the cravings.  Oddly enough, last pregnancy I felt 100% great... this one, not so much.  My stomach is already getting hard, which seems really early too!! This pregnancy cannot go fast enough for me.  I'm not a big fan of being pregnant.  I look forward to holding my #2. <3
