Playtime and toys

How many/what kind of toys does your LO have and enjoy using?

DS is 7 weeks and we have 1 playmat/gym with three dangling toys and a mobile in his crib that DS loves to talk to... But we don't have much more than that since we were in the process of moving right before he was born and went with the premise that all newborns really need is a place to sleep. But now that he is 7 weeks I am wondering if it is time for more toys or if his current items are enough. He also has a few types of rattles but hasn't shown much interest in these.

Re: Playtime and toys

  • My little one is 10 weeks old and she doesn't play with much more than that. We do have a bouncy chair that has been nice, but not necessary. She still likes it when I sing her songs and play with her on the floor or my lap.

  • Toys really aren't necessary.  Their entire world is interesting and new so just talk to him, read him books and play with the few things you have.  In a few months he'll love stuff like an exersaucer or jumperoo and some other toys but don't worry about overloading yourself now.

  • I just got my 7 week old daugther a Sassy high contrast board book that she loves. She spends so much time looking at it! Other than that, she has an Oball, rattles, and a playmat she seems mildly interested in. TThe playmat and the book are her favs though.

  • Thanks for the reassurance. What age do babies typically start needing more toys to hold their interest?
  • My guy is vain and loves looking at himself in the mirror. We have one you can prop on the floor and I put it beside him when he's on his activity mat.

  • The only things my 11 week old is interested in are the Kick n Play Piano mat, her mobiles, and me. Throughout the day I sit her on my lap and talk to her, then lay her on her mat for back time, then flip her over for tummy time, and I'm starting to put her in the bumbo for a couple of minutes at a time and she enjoys that for a bit. Sometimes if I have to get ready, I'll put her in her crib and turn the mobile on, but she is sort of losing interest in it.
