Age for heels for moms of girls

When I was little I always wanted to wear heels, like my mom, and she wouldn't let me until I was at least 13 and then only kitten heels. Well, looking at the Kohls website I just saw they have boots with kitten heels for Toddlers! I can't even imaging my LO trying to walk in those, it's beyond her and me. So I was just wondering, at what point will you let your LO start wearing heels?

  • I voted for 13-15, but I am okay with younger for a special occasion.

  • Call me crazy but I loved playing dress up. Emery already tries to wear my shoes so I am starting a play clothes tub for her. I will let her wear heals around the house for dress up at whatever age she is interested in it.

As for actually going out of the house and walking in heels, hmmm I dont know I havent thought about it. I think I would let her if SHE wanted it. I think I remember walking in those play heels when I was little. I just wouldnt push it on her.

  • I have no idea. And I don't get why a rule saying "you must be x age to wear y" makes any sense, for high heels or anything else. It all depends.

Pretty much this.  We'll handle it as it comes up.

  • I voted 13-15 but I'll probably fall into the 10-13 range. I'm a sucker and if she asks for a special occasion....
Yep this, but probably only kitten heels.

    Toddler shoes with heels?? Crazy!

@kitchencolors I kind of understand it, I'm not terribly coordinated and would have probably broken something if I wore them. Plus, I was such a tomboy I would have tried to wear them climbing trees. I think there's a need to keep girls from acting too old too quickly also, and heels were designed to accentuate a woman's figure, make the legs look longer and cause the woman to stick out both top and bottom.

ETA: Promise, no judgement on when someone lets their kid wear heels, there are some adorable little kitten heels, I just thought as a toddler was really young. I was picturing Charlie and it was just a bad picture.  ;) There would be broken things for sure!

  • I had Dress up heels and loved them... Insisted that I wear them to stores, the beach, etc.... Eleanor will be able to do the same if she wishes. Now, buying shoes with heels for every day life... The 13-15 range. My 5th grader won't be going to school in sling back stilletos no matter how much she wants to.

This exactly. You summed it up much better than me lol. I distinctly remember wearing those Disney heels all over the place and I had to be in the 6-9 range. Actually my mom never really cared what shoe I chose. I remember choosing a shoe with a small heel for my 6th grade school year and hating my life for choosing wrong, but I learned my lesson. I dont think I ever wore a heel to school after that year.

I think I had dress-up heels at home, but didn't wear them out. I'm not sure if I wasn't allowed or didn't want to.

Yeah, bad choices on their parts for designs for beginning walkers.

  • I don't have a girl. But I will say at panera a couple weeks ago there was a very hip grandma with her two granddaughters. They were probably 7 and 9. They had her heels on and purses (obviously grandmas heels). I could tell it was a special occasion. I almost melted. Everyone was telling them how good they looked and they ate it up. For dress up day if I ever have a girl I would let them. Me buying everyday heels for them. When they are older. I was 5'8 in middle school and didnt want to add any height onto me until the boys caught up!
I would have melted into a puddle. I would allow that any day of the week.
