Part time work

I know I am going to keep my current position until bonus time in January, but after that, I'm OUT more than likely. I haven't had my talk with my boss yet and am trying to decide if it's even worth it. With my side job, I don't NEED a full-time job, so I'm hoping I can sell my husband on this plan.

For those of you who work part time, how did you find the job? I know @lewispm and one of you other laides negotiated to take the job down to full-time, but here, that isn't an option, so I'll be on the hunt. I have never looked for part-time and am clueless unless it's retail or food service, which I don't want to do.

I'm really not much help because I kept my position, as you know, but I believe there are some PT jobs available in a lot of secretarial/reception type positions. I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for, though. I used to do a lot for the company I work at, and now I am really just a glorified secretary, but I am OK with that. It is easy, stress-free, and flexible and it pays the bills.

Not sure what type of industry, but I would highly recommend looking at a hospital because they have a ton of part time jobs and the benefits are still usually available and are some of the best. Good luck in your search!

Receptionist for doctors offices do not pay well but sometimes it would be part time or 30 hours a week (it's according to the specialty of the practice). Most dentist offices these days are closed on Fridays.

I'm contemplating quitting my job as a web designer where I make $60k and go part time... I hate it that my son is spending more time at daycare than with me! After all deductions and daycare, I only take home about $1600 and I think I could pull that off waitressing and/or freelancing. hard decisions.

If you have a local college of university I would take a look at their job board. I work for a university and there are tons of PT jobs (some with better pay than my FT position!) in a variety of fields.

This is me too. Right now, I bring home about $1,600 too after family plan insurance, charitable deductions pretax and daycare. My side business is doing well (roughly $1K a month part time), so I'm thinking if I get something part time making less money, with the extra income I already make, I would basically make the same amount I'm bringing home now, but not paying for daycare. I could handle leaving B with MIL a few days a week. Geez at the run-on sentence. I guess my problem with waitressing/retail is not having a set schedule.

Thanks for the suggestions, girls. I can officially quit in 11 days (one year back from maternity leave), so I'm starting my search!
