In the beginning, my DD did really well with PTing. We did M&M's as a motivator and I think that really helped. She's been regressing a lot (not at school, just at home) and having accidents 3-4 times a day. Finally I had to make a potty chart where if she doens't have an accident for 3 days in a row, she gets new fairy underware. For the most part it's working. But when do the motivation tactics fall to the wayside? When will she go potty w/o me bribing her? I dont' want to still be making a potty chart for her when she's 5!
And I have to admit, I'm getting very frustrated. Trying not to angry with her but it's getting hard.
Re: Regression with Potty Training
Both my girls have had potty regressions. DD#1 at 3 and DD#2 at 4. For both I'm certain it was because they started focusing and developing a greater ability to focus on cognitive activities rather than focusing on physical needs. Annoying, but in my mind, a great sign of developing their minds.
DD#1, because she was three, I did reintroduce the potty chart. I quickly faded it to 3 checks throughout the day after meal- Were you dry from wake up til breakfast- yes, here's a sticker.... same at lunch and dinner. Then whichever she was most often successful, drop that check.
My 4 year old I handled differently. I just made her stop what she's doing and make her clean herself up, use the toilet and dress herself. It usually happens when she's on the computer, so she is not allowed to return to the computer until the next "freetime" in our schedule.
II wouldn't sweat it. Good luck!
My DD has been trained since June and has occasional accidents. We have certain times of day that we just go potty by routine: first thing in the morning, nap time, post-nap, bedtime, before leaving the house, after returning home, and about 15 minutes after a meal if she hasn't gone potty on her own.
