Toddler Bed Transition: Questions

Did your toddler start sleeping less as a result of the change? How long did it take them to adjust? Our guy is now sleeping just 10 hrs at night instead of his normal 11 to 11 1/2. And he's an early riser (6am) so now we're looking at 5am wake ups! Ugh! This brings back memories to his younger days... He also has a slight cold and is def in a new "terrible twos" stage here and there. Just wondering if he'll ever go back to sleeping 11 hrs at night again. Mind readers out there have an idea?

Re: Toddler Bed Transition: Questions

  • We aren't close to transitioning DS2 but when DS1 moved to a twin bed from his crib, he gave up naps completely and began getting up earlier than normal. He never went back to sleeping later and around age 3, we introduced the Okay to Wake clock to keep him from bounding out of his room at 5am. It could be a phase or it could be his new schedule....we just kept our routines consistent and when he woke up early, we taught him to play quietly in his bed until 6am.

  • When we transitioned dd she actually slept longer. After a while she started getting up, playing for a half hour by herself, and going back to bed. I hope for your sake it's just the cold waking him up, 5 am sounds miserable! Do you have a humidifier in his room? It might help if he's stuffy, I know when I have a cold I always wake up more miserable than when I went to bed, and humidifiers work wonders. They also work well as white noise machines!
