~~~ Born To Run TTC ~~~
This is a weekly thread for runners who are TTC, that is posted on Mondays.
All who run--or who want to start running--are welcome, regardless of mileage, pace, ability, size, shape, or terrestrial status. This is a place to talk about running while TTC, training, runs, races, gear, recovery, nutrition, and whatever else we can think of.
Anyone who posts here regularly should feel free to start the thread on Mondays if it seems to be missing.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talk about this week's runs, ladies! Let us know how it's going.
GTKY: When do you replace your running shoes? How many miles do you have on your current pair(s)?
Re: ~~~ Born To Run TTC ~~~
  • My runs this week were good, but I skipped two. I had 3, 3, 5, 3, and 8 planned--I only did 3, 3, and 8. But the 8 mile run was good. It was a trail run, which was a lot of fun, but OMG I had no idea how hard trail running was on feet/ankles/hips/back. Yeowch!
    GTKY: I specifically put up this GTKY because I really don't know how many miles are on my shoes, because they are from a few years ago when I stopped running--and I lost count. Probably not that many, since I have three pair (trail, barefoot, regular). BUT I WANT NEW SHOES! I love new shoes. There's probably 150 miles combined on all my three pair.
  • I haven't run in a week because of my chemical pregnancy. I'm going to start again today and I know I'm going to be miserable. My legs lose their strength so fast. I also lost another toenail last night, which is gross. I'm glad I finally got bigger sneakers.
    My plan for this week is to run 6 miles 3 times. I want to make sure I get the mileage in even if my pace is going to be slow.
    GTKY: When do you replace your running shoes? How many miles do you have on your current pair(s)? I don't really have a set plan. I just keep an eye on the treads on the bottoms to make sure they don't wear down too much. I've had my current ones for about a month so I've probably put around 70-75 miles on them.
  • Morning all! :-h
    @von1976 Great job with all the running you did! Funny because all I usually do are trail runs so I've gotten used to them. But yeah, they do a number on my hamstrings and hips, especially if I don't run for a week.
    I completed my Super Spartan race yesterday so that was pretty awesome and fun. I felt bad because I did it with 2 friends and one of them didn't get to finish the race because of a back injury. As for me, I'm super sore and achy today because a majority of the race involved hiking up ski hills. I probably won't run again until Tuesday or Wednesday to give my body a break.
    GTKY: When do you replace your running shoes? How many miles do you have on your current pair(s)? I haven't been consistent with replacing my running shoes. I've been going about 4-6 months before replacing them, but sooner if they seem to bother me.
  • I have been slacking off on running lately since I have been so busy moving - a lot of packing, unpacking, deep cleaning, etc. we didn't hire any of it. We had some amazing friends help with the furniture, but it has been DH and I with everything else and that has been a workout.
    I did a half a little more than a week ago. It was a good time, especially considering that it was one of the hottest days of the year. I have plans to run with a friend on Tuesday and Thursday this week and I have another half on Sunday.
    I do a horrible job tracking miles on my shoes. My current shoes a new, less than 30 miles on them. I feel a very distinct foot pain when my shoes are ready for replacement. I go through 2-3 pairs of running shoes per year.
  • @bpaws .... Awesome job on the weight loss!!
    I am on a roll. I ran 5 days last week. I go to the Dr in a couple of weeks and hopefully they can figure out why I'm in pain all the time but for now running is my new therapy. It's keeping me sane. Now I need a maid because I don't have it in me when I get home to clean too.
    I buy new running shoes every six months. I just started back running so I'm not putting a lot of miles on them right now but I will still replace every 6 months. My feet hurt all the damn time, and my podiatrist told me to get new once every 6 months so I do.
    Also I have a question .... I'm a slow runner always have been. I did get up to 9 min miles once but that was a couple years ago. I'm real slow now! My son and I were at the treadmill yesterday and I noticed he's walking with it on 4.5 and when I set it on 4.5 I have to start jogging. I'm alternating between 5 and 4.5 and I go to 6 towards the end of my run. I think it's because he's tall and I'm short. So just curious when you get on a treadmill what to you set it on?
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • @crystaleyes138 - what kind of races don't let you carry a phone? Can you put it in an arm band or fanny pack?  I use a GPS watch, but I often carry my phone, house/car keys, cash, and gels in a fanny pack (not the touristy kind, but one I paid too much $$ for at a running store) on long runs or races.
    @jconno - I def plan to keep running when I am KU. I might scale back on the long runs and I will probably naturally slow down (especially near the end - it might even be a walk by then!).  Of all thewomen I know that have had kids, it seems like the ones that maintain an exercise routine during pregnancy get back to the pre-baby weight much faster and also report of having an easier delivery.
  • I had a major fail with my running goal this week.  My plan was to do 2 miles each day, for 3 days.  I only completed one day of 2 miles which was yesterday.  I wanted to alternate running days with my zumba days but things got in the way. Trying to rearrange my schedule to get my run in, in the mornings instead of the evenings.
    GTKY - I have about 20 miles on my shoes.   I would like to get a second pair because I use the same shoes for everything (zumba, elliptical, and treadmill)  I want to have a set pair just for running.
  • I hope you ladies don't mind if I come back and play!!!
    I did pretty good running this week.  I only missed one run as that night I just had no energy left to get out there and run.  I ran 13 miles for the week and biked 15.  We'll see how well I do in my half marathon in a little over 2 weeks from now.
    GTKY: When do you replace your running shoes? How many miles do you have on your current pair(s)?: I have to replace my "new" pair asap.  I've actually gone back to a worn out pair for the past two weeks until I can make it to the running store to try on new shoes.  I moved to a new pair earlier this year and I have had nothing but issues with my legs/feet since.  I am convinced it has to be me shoes.  After running a little over 400 miles on them, I just want a new pair so I can get rid of my leg issues.   I never replace my shoes based on miles -- although I do log all the miles I run, bike and swim on an app on my phone -- I replace my shoes when I can feel they need replacing.
  •  Talk about this week's runs, ladies! Let us know how it's going. Sadly, I didn't make it running once this week. Last week, I did receive an email that my work is sponsoring me to run in the MCM 10K in late October. I've run this race at least 5x and did the full marathon 3 years ago. I'm really excited that I don't have to pay the $ to run it :)
    GTKY: When do you replace your running shoes? How many miles do you have on your current pair(s)? This really depends on what races I'm training for...I haven't replaced my pair since March 2012. On these pair (Brooks, my favorite) I've trained and ran a 10 miler in April 2012, trained and ran a 10K in October 2012, and trained and ran a half marathon in April 2013. I will be training/running the 10K in October this year in these too. I'm probably due for a new pair this winter. I replaced mine a lot sooner the year I trained/ran the marathon. I have a separate pair of gym shoes that I wear for kickboxing and weight-training.
  • I'm a new runner.  I'm an avid gym member and I have done p90x and am currently doing T25.  I usually do 2 workouts a day and decided to start running about 3 weeks ago.  I ran 3.37 miles last night and averaged 10 minute 50 seconds per mile.  The first mile was 8:22 and then I seemed to slow down quite significantly.
    GTKY: I'm a nike shoe whore so I usually replace my shoes every 2 months.  I am obsessed with Nike running shoes <3
  • Hi all!
    Talk about this week's runs, ladies! Let us know how it's going. As suspected, my week of running did not go well. My double ear infection was a major fail! Only ran one 3-miler during the week and a 5K with my DH (his first one, YAY!) on Saturday. I was supposed to a long 8-miler, but never got to it. Hoping this week goes much better and just gearing myself up for my next mini on the 28th!
    GTKY: When do you replace your running shoes? How many miles do you have on your current pair(s)? I bought my first pair of fitted (and VERY expensive) running shoes in February. I logged about 300 miles on them and retired them about 3 weeks ago for a new pair (same brand and style, just a new pretty color). I probably could have used new ones sooner, but I honestly would forget to order them until after a long run and realizing my feet hurt!
    USAT sanctioned races won't let you carry any music device or phones. Some independent races will specify in their packet no music or phones. Many trail races here will let you carry the phone, but no headphones, since they're often single track and it's a hazard if you can't hear a runner coming to pass you. I know many, many non-USAT or WTC races I do, it's highly discouraged but not outright banned.
    Honestly, I tend to judge people carrying a phone especially if they're talking on it (yep, saw that at a half once) or if it's tucked into your bra. I don't really care about music. I think it makes you more oblivious and I tend to give you a wider berth since I assume you won't hear me coming or be aware of your surroundings but as a triathlete, since we're never allowed to have headphones, I have learned to workout for 7+ hours without music. I have just seen so many runners, happily jogging along with their phone or headphones step into traffic, almost be hit by bikes, block single track paths and block bike lanes. A teammate crashed over the weekend when a runner happily texting on her phone stepped in front of him.
    If you must listen to music, please take one ear bud out so you can hear the world around you. It's safer.
    Ok, end rant. Sorry, everyone.
    I ALWAYS carry my phone in my running pouch.  I never listen to music on it and I always keep it on vibrate or off while I am racing, but I never race without my phone.  There have been quite a few half marathons I ran where (1) they aren't very big events with lots of runners (less than 200) and (2) are running out in the middle of nowhere will you won't see anyone -- including volunteers -- for 1-3 miles.  If something were happen or I needed to DNF at least I would have my phone to call for help.
    Also, after running the MCM in 2011 the end of the race dumps you down where all the spectators were waiting for family and friends to finish.  I finished last among my family and it took me over 2 hours to find my family and boyfriend after the finish. I had no money, no phone, and really no clue where I was.  I also was staying at my sister's in Alexandria.  I was starting to panic when finally they found me as I was wandering around.  Since then, I always run with my Drivers License, $20 cash and my phone in my race belt.
  • This week was pretty slow for me. I only did a 6mi run and a 4mi run, 10 total for the week when I usually hit at least 12 or 13mi. I'm hoping to have a better week :)
    Good question about milage on shoes. I think I am at the point of needing to replace them. I was such a newbie when I bought them that I didn't buy a size bigger and my toes are really complaining on the 6mi runs. Mine are approx. 6mo old so I think it's time to rotate them out. I've read 4-6 months.
  • I am planning on getting back into running this week. I just found an awesome lagoon to run around with a few other trails around and its only a 2 min walk from my place. I wish I had found it 10 months earlier when I had moved here lol.  I think I'm going to do the walk to run training again.  I did it a couple of years ago to do a 10k and had great success with it.  I still have the book so I will just start over with that again.
    I have no idea how many miles are on my shoes at the moment but once I actully know that I will continue running and its not something that I'm going to do for 2 weeks and give up, I will be getting myself new shoes then.
    @crystaleyes138 off topic but every time I see your siggy I burst out laughing!  It so reminds me of my BT at home.
  • Love this thread! I haven't run in weeks:/ We went on vacation and then it was back to school for me but I'm hoping to get some miles in this week. I log my miles on a calendar and replace my shoes every 500 miles. I currently have 387.7 miles on my Sauconys now
