Daycare cost/recs in north/northwest suburbs

Hi, I'm trying to get an idea of how much the average daycare costs in the north/northwest suburbs. I work in Northbrook, so am looking in the NB/Glenview area, but am open to surrounding areas (AH, Prospect, BG, Palatine)

Any recommendations of affordable childcare options? (Home or centers).  Thank you very much for any feedback!!!

Re: Daycare cost/recs in north/northwest suburbs

  • I take my daughter to Knowledge Beginnings in the Glen. She'll be 2 this fall and we've been very happy with the staff and her development.  Being a FTM, I wasn't really aware of what was appropriate for my daughter to know and what to teach her- they've definitely helped to fill in that gap.  It's expensive, but cheaper than a nanny in the Northbrook/Glenview area and the hours that they are open allowed me to keep the same work schedule (I commute by train into the city).  I never looked into home daycare centers since I figured it would be difficult to accommodate my work schedule.

  • I am looking in the same area for my LO due in Dec.  DH and I are planning on looking at the Bright Horizon's daycare centers.  I have several friends that use them at other locations and absolutely love them.  Not sure about the cost, but from what I have heard, for a newborn you can expect around $1500 a month for full time care.  They don't post any cost info on their website unfortunately.

    Good luck!
  • Just as an FYI, I visited Bright Horizons in Deer Park last week and they are 1800 per month for 5 days a week in the infant room. Seemed a bit pricey to me.

So far, DH and I have visited Children's Land in Wheeling. It's $350/wk for 5 days. I was very impressed with the facility and staff. The Wheeling location is fairly new, not even a year old. But it's the 3rd branch in the company. I believe the other 2 locations are in Glenview and Lincolnshire.

We're also planning on looking into Poko Loko, also in Wheeling. They're $50 cheaper a week ($300/wk for 5 days).

LO is only 3 weeks old, but I go back to work early October so I need to figure it out soon.
  • If any of you are still looking for Childcare, I am looking for a child to watch in my Arlington Heights home. The only other child there would be my son who is 12 months. I have a BS in family and child studies with lots of experience. I would charge $75 a day or $350 a week, as long as the hours aren't too long. PM if interested.

  • I live in Palatine and I'm expecting twins in Oct/Nov. I'll be staying home with them and looking for another child to watch around the same age. I've been a full time nanny for the past 7 1/2 years and have great references. Send me a message! Thanks!

I live in MC and pay $200 right now. She wants a significant increase which we can't afford.
