Babies on the Brain

So this sucks...

...and is obviously a vent post.  My mom was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease a couple weeks ago.  It stinks because she's always been "young" grandma even though she's 60.  It also worries me because both of her parents and her grandmother lived to be about 90, so I've (obviously naively) assumed she would, too.  Now, that seems like a cruel thing to hope for her to "suffer" for another 30 years, if that makes any sense.

Thanks for listening

  • That sucks all around. So sorry you all have to deal with this.

  • Thanks guys.  She's responding really well to a very low dose of her meds, so we're hopeful it's going to be an "easy" road for a while anyway.

On a lighter note, she is sooooooooo excited for the new Michael J. Fox Show.  How cliche is that?!  LOL

  • My grandfather was diagnosed at about that age.  He worked on his farm for another 15 years and was in pretty good health (lived at home) until about a year ago.  He died a month ago 4 days shy of 89.

Wow.  That gives me so much hope.  Obviously everyone is different, but it's good to hear the good things instead of just the horror stories!

  • I'm sorry.  I hope the meds keep working and she has a lot of good years ahead of her.
