Hello ladies! Sorry I've been amiss for a while now. The short story, Gabriel Owen was born at 36 weeks 2 days on Tuesday August 27th. He is perfect and healthy despite being a premie. He was 6 lbs 7 oz and 19 3/4 in long.
Long story: I began losing my mucus plus the Friday prior, and continued losing it throughout the weekend. Didn't make too much out of it, since it can mean nothing other than things are progressing at some rate. Monday I had my OB appt and an NST. Both had my blood pressure seriously elevated, so I was sent for some blood work and urinalysis to rule out pre-e. Monday night I started cramping just before midnight, and they came at 20 minute intervals all through the night. Tuesday mid day they were down to 8 mins apart, so I called the doc and went it. I was already 4 cm dialated, cervix totally thinned and the nurse could see that baby had hair when I got there! So, l&d it was! I was 4cm at 1:30, by 3:30 I was 7cm. Had the epidural put in (ahhhhhh-mazing!) and later found out that I came this-close to not being able to get it. By 4:30 I was at 10cm and ready to start pushing. I pushed for 30 minutes and Gabe was here!! Most amazing moment of my life.
Then the chaos started. I began hemorrhaging and had to have an emergency surgery that ended up taking about an hour and half. DH was not allowed to leave the room in the event he needed to make any major decisions. I was barely aware of what was going on between the meds, blood loss and oxygen mask. They almost transferred me across the street to the main hospital (I was in the women's hospital) for a blood transfusion, but were able to stabilize me before that happened. After another close call with a drastic blood pressure drop, I was finally cleared for heading up to our room on the PP floor about 9pm. Throughout it all DH was amazing, supportive, strong and loving. Later of course he told me how frightened he was. I was also told that had my labor not progressed so quickly Gabe would have been at risk from all the blood that was building in the birth canal. I am so thankful that everything went as it did and that he & I are doing well now. I was totally not expecting an August baby (was due Sept 22) but he had other plans.
Cheers to all the ladies that have had their little ones while I've been away! And here's to all those who will soon be joining us. It was worth every worry, pain and difficulty the moment I heard him cry!
And now, some pics of the little man we are madly in love with
