Water Park?

Sooo my friends invited me to go to a water park with them tomorrow. I am 3w5d PP tomorrow, My stitches from my episiotomy have completely dissolved and my "lovely" scar is forming nicely. I only trickle a tiny bit of blood here and there now (less than a thin liner in a days time now, even being up and about) I have no pain at all anymore and I have been quite active with shopping and doing chores walking stairs, ect. I also plan on bring my leftover betadine with me to clean off after words for germs and what not.

My question is, Is it safe to go the water park and go on a few water coasters (plus regular roller-coaster in the other part of the park?) please don't tell me I am dumb for asking but I don't feel like this is a problem to call the doctor about in the middle of the night and I didn't know if any of you ladies would know the answer. My ticket was already paid for, otherwise I would just tell them no, but if its possible I would really like to go.

Re: Water Park?

  • I was told no swimming pools for 6 weeks, because that's when everything is really closed up, and the doctor checks you out. I know people who haven't listened to this recommendation. I also know people who have ended up with some pretty nasty infections even though they thought they were healed.

It's my understanding that the 6 week rule is more about being submerged, and bacteria possibly getting into a not totally closed up cervix. So if its a ride that just splashes you a bit, I wouldn't be too concerned. But I wouldn't go in a public pool or lazy river or something like that.

  • I don't think I would chance it if it were me.   At the very least I would call the nurse line and ask them.

  • So if I am in the water for like a minute or 2 at a time (no lazy river or wave pools or anything like that), would that be safer. (as a disclaimer, I know I you aren't doctors)

  • If I were you, I'd just sun bath and maybe go on regular roller coasters, not the water ones. They should understand. And I wouldn't go more than knee deep in the water if I really wanted to go in. Better safe than sorry!
  • I would probably go enjoy the sun and vitamin D. Be the awesome friend that watches everyone's stuff and smile while they go on rides- enjoy time with your friends out of the house!
  • Im no Dr, but since i was told not to even take a bath for 6 weeks, I definitely wouldn't go in a public pool, even for only a few min at a time. And definitely wouldn't go on the water slides/rides which could essentially push the water that hundreds of people have been in up your vag.. But that's just me.

  • I just didn't know, my ON didn't give me discharge instructions except to clean, my stitched with Betadine, after urinating and not to lift over 10lb and come back in 5 Weeks. Yeah so quite vague

  • I would say confidently that your Dr. would say no if they were asked this question for PPs reasoniing regarding your cervix situation. Baths are normally ok. Swimming is not.

  • I got a nasty infection at a waterpark while I was still pregnant. Getting one with an open cervix would be even worse. I wouldn't chance it. Those places are not for people who are susceptible to infections, which is anyone under 6wks PP.

  • I agree with everyone else. As much of a bummer as it may be, you could still go in knee deep, get some sun and go on other rides that aren't water rides. You'll feel good just getting out of the house, especially if its already paid for!
  • I definitely would not go in the water. You said that there is occasional bleeding still. You aren't allowed to use tampons yet. I would be scared of an infection. I think it is great that you are even up to that kind of outing 3 weeks pp. I was just starting to feel like a "normal" person again when I was 3 weeks pp.
  • I hope you decided not to go. You will be at risk for infection especially going down slides bc the water can be going up into your uterus if your cervix hasn't completely closed. That's the reason they say no sex for 6 weeks.

And if you did go, if you start getting a fever make sure you go to the doctor asap. I had a serious uterine infection the day after giving birth and was released and had to go right back to the hospital for another 4 days after my first baby.
