XP- Elimination Diet

Hello!

Has anyone done this?
Back story: about a week and a half ago my LO had a little blood in her diaper... after going to the dr, the confirmed the blood.  My doctor told me to eat only carbs and starches for 48 hours then slowly add things in.  Well today she had another bad diaper, it was really dark, runny, frothy, and I think some blood.  She hadn't pooped in 2 day (which isn't like her)... she is also teething and I have given Tylenol..... So I guess it could be any factor.  But I feel horrible that what I am eating could be hurting my baby.

After some research I read I should do the elimination diet?  This is very different from my dr. rec for carbs & starches..... Any thoughts?
Anyone done the elimination diet that can recommend some meals?
Also... I am wondering if maybe she has a problem with dariy.... would it just show now after 4 months?  Mama's not eating dairy... does that include soy?

Sorry for all the questions but I want to get started ASAP and getting so much different info I am hoping some where here has been through it and has advice.

  • Try posting this on the breastfeeding board. I had to do an elimination diet with my DS to figure what triggered his acid reflux the worst, but in the end the pedi advised me to switch to soy formula for him. I hated it. Although, it solved our problem and helped his stomach a lot, having to stop breastfeeding was devastating.

  • blood in stool could indicate gluten intolerance. thats what elimination diet should rule out. If you stop eating all gluten, and a lot of soy based products contain gluten, you monitor if symptoms improve or disappear. Gluten stays in your body for a long time, even months, but for most people the biggest issues should subside after two weeks. If your baby is gluten intolerant, his stool and general tummy health should improve within that time. If thats the case, you should avoid all gluten going forward. The test will be when you re-introduce gluten and if symtoms return, that gives you a pretty good indication that gluten should be completely eliminated from his diet. The diet is tricky in the beginning because there is hidden gluten in many food. You will have to learn to read labels, research and avoid most processed foods. Good luck!
