NBFR WHEN did this become a thing?

I did the neighbor a favor and dropped her son off at the High School Football game last night. AND THERE WERE GIRLS WALKING AROUND WITH THEIR PANTS UNZIPPED AND JEANS FOLDED OVER TO REVEAL THEIR UNDERWEAR. When, when, WHEN did this become a "thing?" And how on EARTH is the school administration not putting a stop to it???

DH and I have yet to make schooling decisions for our kids, whether it be public, private, or home school. I can say one thing for sure - we sure as heck won't be staying in this school district.

When I was a teen I think we did it in the summer with swimsuits, but with your freaking underwear??

  • This isn't a school district issue. This is a parental issue. We did it in high school. It has been around for years.

I was never able to leave the house like that. I changed when I got to where I was going. Teens are tricky.

This. And I am 39. Then again in high school we also wore jeans above our belly buttons, XL mens Champions sweatshirts even though I weighed 97lbs so only in the summer did we show skin. But we would not have been allowed into a game looking like that. Send an email to the athletic director and Principal and see if you get a response.

  • I have never seen or heard of anything like this. I would be contacting the school administrators about dress code immediately.
  • I'm not a prude by any means, but that is ridiculous.

  • when i was a teen we would do this with yoga pants or fabric shorts...jeans seem like itd be to uncomfortable to do that with. I also knew a girl would would cut the top of her jeas if she felt they were to high on her waist.

Actually....I saw this in the mid 80's.  Girls would wear boxer shorts, with their jeans unbuttoned with the shorts peeking out.  It's not new believe it or not.  And 80's fashion is returning.

  • This is just the latest how can we be shocking trend. Every generation has one or a lot. And really it's been around in one way or another for forever. So unless your kids are going to school in the next year or so, they will have likely moved on from this to something else. Private schools aren't much better. The girls at private schools I knew would roll their skirts when not in classes so they were beyond short.
Also, how is this any different or more shocking than boys with their pants around their knees. Literally around their knees with their asses hanging out?

I can not tell you how many times I have resisted the urge to go up and yank their pants up. I mean seriously...do they not know how stupid this makes them look?  And I'm not talking about their ass hanging out. Their legs look super short.  It's goofy!

Seconded! Ours were wife beater tanks with a bra. I always sewed up the arm holes so they fit properly but the other girls had a goodly portion or the cup and side showing.

It's not, they're both ridiculously inappropriate, IMO!

If that's the case why the sudden outrage? Why point out the girls with their inappropriate attire and not the boys? What effect does attire have on education?
  • I was also thinking why we're up in arms over the girls, if the boys have been wearing their pants around their ankles (tongue-in-cheek) for years. If I'm not mistaken, it started with Marky Mark and his Hugo Boss underwear gig. And that was like 20 years ago. Oh....and I liked that one very much I did.

I pointed out the boys when it happened years ago, when I first saw it. I'm pointing out the girls now, as I just saw it for the first time.

There are countless studies on the affect that attire has on education; hence the reason that school uniforms exist in many private schools and even some public schools.
