Athletic endeavors you'll miss?

I know working out is approved at levels you've been at, but there are some things that are generally frowned upon. Also, I'm not upset about it- I'd much rather be pregnant than doing these things. Anyhow...

I'm a skiier and will really miss it this winter- especially since we plan to get dd on the slopes this year- we took her once last season, but she was 19 mos and could only do it with someone really supporting her (it was awesome though).

what's your thing? I imagine sky-diving, white water rafting, mountain biking (even road biking I guess) , and a few others would all be on the 'frowned upon' list.

  • Due to unexplained spotting, my midwife group has asked me to skip a race I was hoping to compete in next month and to tone down all of my other activities. Once baby arrives, I will be so ready to be active again. :)

  • Hockey. I'm going to play for the first trimester but will have to be out for most of the season. Pretty sad about that.
  • Hot yoga is on my list as well.

    Honestly, at the moment, I just miss being active and being outside -- I'm nauseous 100% of the day and it's still topping out at 100 degrees here. I'd feel so much better if I could just get outside and WALK.

  • I was just really making progress with my running and I've come to basically a full stop because I'm just so exhausted.

  • But at least yoga is still okay, just turn down the temp.
  • I used to cheer too, but still love to tumble. Standing tucks will never be the same! ;)
  • Snowboarding is on my list too. I missed it last winter because I was pregnant November-January and then from March-April. I'm really bummed about missing 2 seasons in a row, but hopefully this baby will stay put and I won't have to miss next season.

    I'm also a little bummed about the restrictions that I forgot about in CrossFit, like rope climbing, muscle ups, box jumps and anything inverted. And when I was running last night I peed before starting my 5k run and almost didn't make it to pee again at the end so I'm curious to see how much longer I have before I can't run due to bladder pressure :(

  • I hope to keep running. It has been much less recently but hoping to get some energy back to get back out there more.
    We do a lot of snowmobiling, I will see how that works out.
  • Before dd I did pole dancing classes. Never really went back. Still miss it.

  • I'm signed up for the princess half marathon at the end of February...hoping that there are no complications so if nothing else I can at least try to walk it (I'm not s fast runner by any means)

  • I will definitely missed water sports, our only lake trip this year was planned before I found out I was pregnant. Although I would most absolutely rather be pregnant I was really bummed about no wake surfing or knee boarding.

  • I've given up spinning & running and I really miss them both. I know some can still do both activities but my heart rate was getting too high and I worry too much!
  • I am a fitness instructor & the type that teaches tough classes....I cut back majorly to teaching 1-2 classes a week, I used to do that in 1 day! Plus I am more walking around cueing. I miss being that crazy workout girl... I have put about 5lbs on already too because I am not burning those 1000+ calories a day anymore. I will get back there!!

    Not sure if it's a sport but target shooting in the woods (lead in bullets and the noise)... I've also given up jogging simply because my body can't muster up the energy- even before I knew I was pregnant!

  • Scuba diving!! I fell in love with it on our honeymoon!! But 9 months isn't too long to wait! :)
  • Snowboarding! I was looking forward to getting out there this winter but alas it is worth not being able to. There's always next winter :)
  • I was going to play in an adult dodgeball league this fall...I'll be raring to go for flag football and a Warrior Dash next summer.
  • Roller skating. I played roller derby for 4.5 yrs and quit back in April due to a knee issue. I was just gearing up to at least get back on skates when I found out I was knocked up. I'm hoping for the docs ok to at least roll around at practices with absolutely no contact.
  • pole fitness, aerial dance , and gymnastics! I keep having crazy vivid dreams where I'm sitting on a mat at one of my gyms watching and itching to just do it i stand up to try a new move but then I stop my self and rub my belly and wake up, it feels so real !

  • All types of working out, I've had to stop a few times now due to spotting.
    Sex! Because we're pretty sure that caused spotting. Two times in pregnancy we had sex and the next day both times I'm hysterical in the bathroom with spotting. Not worth it!
  • I've already mentioned my sadness over a CrossFit hiatus. (Sorry to sound like a broken record.) I'm bummed because I had just gotten to doing 10 consecutive dead hang pull-ups, and some weighted pull-up PRS and between that and my dips I was THIS close to getting a muscle up! Also I had just gotten a chalk ball and had plans to video tape myself doing this thing at an outdoor gymnastic bar gym where I can climb two parallel vertical poles with one hand gripping each pole and legs dangling (all upper body strength)- its harder than a rope climb/pole climb, more of a monkey climb.

    I had laproscopic surgery in February and to my horror afterwards I could not do one pull-up because of the pull in my healing abdomen, but within 6 weeks I had matched and beat my pull-up PR. I'm prepared for a struggle after baby with 9 months if no abs, but it sucks when you first discover you cannot do something that was once effortless!
  • Skiing.  We moved to the south two and a half years ago and are just getting back up north for a winter vacation this year.  I'll be stuck in the lodge.

    I'll have to reduce and adjust some of my shooting too.

  • I'm super bummed about missing this ski season. I had to miss last season because I had a surgery on my wrist that didn't heal before the snow melted. Ive been skiing since i was 2 and its the best part of winter as far as im concerned. Definitely going to be dragging a family member or nanny on a ski trip next winter out west so I can get some time on the mountain.

    knotty-girl Why can't you do ab strengthening for 9 months?  Did your dr. restrict you?  I've read that sometime after the first tri (16 weeks maybe?) you aren't supposed to lay on your back for ab exercises, but other forms of abdominal exercises are okay (plank variations, hanging knee raises, etc).

  • Hot yoga, wake boarding, running, and now my friend's bachelorette party is this weekend and we were all going to do a pole dancing class but I am almost sure my Dr. will tell me pole + twins = no no, after I mention it. But like you said I am happy to be pregnant but looking forward to doing this activities next year!
